UK universities cannot thrive while continually cutting academic staff

No amount of wellness webinars, Lego play workshops, communal climbing events, bounce back sessions, desk yoga, jigsaw puzzle nights or Vice Chancellor's Special Awards for Resilience can change this

Ok I am highly emosh this week, but seeing this simple act of human kindness by arguably the most powerful person on Earth at the time had me burst into tears
Remember the time Obama personally caught a fainting woman during his speech — rather than just blankly staring like a sociopath?

Character isn't something you tell people about.

It's something you live.

If you have any friends or family that work in higher education in UK right now (or probably anywhere really) - they are NOT doing OK. Universities are being gutted. It's a horror show and I'm not even sure people outside understand this is happening. #academicsky

Dozens of staff stood up and displayed these signs at the beginning of today’s address by the VC to demonstrate their lack of confidence in him and his ability to impose such devastating staff cuts across the university.

I'm giving my vote to tetrahedrite!

As Sack & Loucks showed in 1985, the multisite reciprocal replacement of Cu <-> Ag, Fe <-> Zn, Cu <-> Fe, and As <-> Sb make it the "Rolls Royce" of indicator mienrals for the pressure, temperature, and pH conditions of an ore deposit. Vote for the ore with more!

Can’t believe this beauty - and gateway drug to mineral collecting - #galena, is losing to something that isn’t a modern ore mineral #copper

#orecup

Native #copper is a real hazard in crushing circuits because it is malleable and gums things up.
Remember, Galena is not only the principal ore for lead, but also an important ore for silver. Vote Galena.

I can't think of anything scarier than this.

The greenhouse gases we have added to the atmosphere now force over a billion Hiroshima bombs worth of heat into the Earth system every year.

One, possibly only, pleasure of long ✈️ travel is that for once I get to watch some films:

Warfare ****
Tornado **
Mr Burton *****
The Black Sea ***
Civil War ****

Solid work there by Alex Garland for the first and last, but quite grim too.
