Played a show in Berlin on Saturday & was somehow still in shape for going to the Computerspielmuseum on Sunday powered by 2.5 hours of sleep & an espresso.

They had an N-Gage exhibition themed around failure.

Jesus, can you hear me? Good, the comms are working. Now, you're gonna need to run if you want to evade those Roman soldiers. Hold down A to sprint. Go ahead and try it. ... Good work! You just might be the savior yet. Now pick up that AR-15 and let's do some target practice.

back when atari was making the paperboy arcade game there was a large guy in the office who, among his other main job duties, would try to rip off the handlebar control, other game's joystick etc, and when he could do it they went back to the drawing board, it had to be ready for random drunk people

I still don't have any takers here - it's a complex use case, so I didn't expect one right away, but if you know anyone who uses or could benefit from switch access hit me up
Posting this just made me remember something and I’m angry with myself bc I should have said this sooner

I have a lot used for testing that ends up not being used, and I have this Xbox adaptive controller and the full kit. Happy to ship it to any gamer who HAS THE NEED for the full controller

There’s a big overlap between the sounds floppy drives make and the sounds made by the creaking body of anyone who was around to use them back then.

Which is why getting up in the morning is now peak nostalgia.
One thing about retro computing that I must say has no equivalent in modern computers:

There are very few common mechanical devices that feel as satisfying to operate as inserting a 3 1/2 in floppy disk into a disk drive.

Another good Horses piece
Despite the controversy, Horses is only shocking if you're unfamiliar with the history movies, theater, literature, or basically any art form that does not have stats. aftermath.site/horses-indie-g...
Horses Is Tame
Horses, the indie game that is too scandalous for either Valve or Epic, is only beyond the pale if you're not familiar with any other art form.

Some nice & very talented colleagues at my day job made a viral hit for Visit Oslo & won a Silver Lion in Cannes.

Now I’m acting in the case film, which was a fun day at work.

Wow, will you look at that!
The game's actual themes sound exactly like what I expected, and none of the pearl clutching bad faith puritan yelling is actually correct or even vaguely relevant to the conversation, but that's how it always goes, isn't it, since they're usually the dehumanizers...

A single bike Hang-On cabinet was in retrospect a pretty sweet deal for a video store in a tiny North Norwegian town. Also, the local youth club had a Pac-Man table that had been around since (probably) the early 80s.
we never had proper "arcades" until the mid 90s in norway, but the video rental stores were surprisingly on the ball about aquiring interesting arcade cabinets from the mid 80s on.

Golden thread, keep spinning
i was going through my X archives and found this by @superpodsaga.com, which I qrt'd at some point years ago

so, let me bring the question back: what is the most useless piece of video game knowledge you know?

Writing parental guides about games, Roblox and its safety features/parental controls was the one game that had me truly stumped.

Guess they’ve changed somewhat since then, but that entire platform is still a hard pass.
Every parent whose career has to do with online safety also bans Roblox.
Every game designer parent I know bans Roblox for their kids

Shittification and shareholder return

A rehash of an old thread

Why is everything crap. Well, here we learn why Adam Smith was an early Marxist, in that though he had great faith in markets

He had zero faith in merchants

And the reason why, is why no one answers your helpline

As a Kinect reviewer back then (it made for fun videos), I still think it had its uses. However, it’s more fun to focus on the bad stuff.

Steel Battalion mechs had a self destruct button you would inadvertently push while flailing to hit the button that aired out exhaust from the steerhouse.
For better or for worse, The Xbox Kinect was released 15 years ago today.
