This is well put. So *many* technologies are joyous and progressive. The web was invented in a PUBLICLY FUNDED UNIVERSITY! It is, in fact, an aberration that the fascist VCs think they're the default with their approach to tech. They were only ever supposed to be a tiny fraction of the ecosystem.
Once, technology solved problems. People liked having problems solved, so they liked technology.

Tech execs started to think of that sentiment as their due. So when they stopped solving problems, and people stopped liking them, they became outraged. "How dare you not love whatever we give you?"
I am a luddite and to me there is a lot of joy in technology. In technology that we deploy for all our wellbeing. Solar panels and vaccines, high-speed rail and wikipedia.

But they joy stems from the feeling of being able to be part of humanity in an embedded, meaningful way. Not from buying shit.

We gotta imprison every single motherfucker who keeps insisting we can just use lumens and raytracing instead of actually making lighting for the fucking game you made

Every one of the main characters has a different name for you, and the routes (which it has) are fundamentally about who you choose to affirm and who you choose to reject.

It is structured EXACTLY the way a dating sim is, with an emphasis on allegiance and your feelings over plot.

Just saw an ad that started out "your kids won't remember their best day of screen time" and while I of course broadly agree with the sentiment that you should do activities with your children, don't tell me i don't remember beating zelda a link to the past

I'm not one to typically judge people on what games they play but I think if you play Comfy Border Patrol, you're a genuinely reprehensible human
Papers, Please but it doesn't make you feel bad so you can just enjoy the fun gameplay loop without the bummer aesthetics and story!

instead of arguing subjective video game opinions or throwing around sales numbers, this feels like actual tangible evidence that we’ve been playing it too safe for the last 10 years

and that’s without mentioning the key art is definitely just a buncha people-looking people

The outright vandalism AI has wrought in every industry and government it has even tangentially touched is more than enough to justify socially ostracizing those who directed the decisions who got us here. They should not be allowed to participate in polite society.

There are so many reasons these days where I’m feeling like this focus on generative AI might be one of the worst mistakes in recent human history. Whatever perceived value it could provide isn’t worth the damage it’s doing in so many areas.
