I waited for some downtime to play Time Flies (timeflies.buzz) and I'm glad I did. It's a quietly amazing thing—charming, clever, tender, and funny, and that's all before the final act hits you unexpectedly in the gut. A game that makes me want to make games, and my favorite in a long time.
Time Flies – A game about our limited time in this world.
Available now for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Steam, Epic Games Store, and Mac App Store. A game by Michael Frei and Raphaël Munoz, produced by Playables.

* Vehicle traffic: -11%
* Foot traffic: +3.4%
* Storefront vacancy: -0.9%
* Pollution: -22%
* Revenue for mass transit: $548M

So YES this has been a huge success.

No, I think the art is bad because it feels utterly derivative and aesthetically vacant. I might conclude that's because an LLM has no consciousness or experience of being alive to express, but that's not a "religious belief." That's just me trying to puzzle out why the art sucks shit.
if you think the art is bad "because it lacks the touch of a human soul" that is a perfectly valid religious belief but not one anyone who does not share your faith-based ideas about the human soul needs to accept as any sort of a convincing argument

Reminder that The Matrix and eXistenZ came out the same year
Any time you work on anything, you are going to hit those "UH OH" moments where your stomach drops as you see a similar project that makes yours feel derivative and uninteresting and doomed to fail.

That's normal! Regroup, adapt, persevere! Your perspective has value!

Were classical statues painted horribly?

It is often suggested that modern viewers dislike painted reconstructions of Greek and Roman statues because our taste differs from that of the ancients. This essay proposes an alternative explanation.

I submit to you that the frustrated/divided reactions to Pluribus are due to the creator having the clout to make exactly the show he wants and that's extremely unusual in television

If a tiny fraction of the resources deployed towards AI was invested instead in actual artists we'd be enjoying a renaissance rather than drowning in a sea of garbage

"No ceiling" results in what we have: a couple dozen psychopaths control several trillion dollars and the power has made them go stark raving mad. They are obsessed with using their concentrated wealth to punish the population and remake the country into a failed state and international pariah.
No value, no villain, no vision. Sounds like the tagline for the earnings call of a collapsing appliance retailer

Something I find baffling about AI discourse is the notion that a viable artistic ecosystem only benefits artists
I think that may be the core division here: if you are an author or an artist the cons of generative AI very likely outweigh the pros for you

If you are a software developer the opposite is true
