Many talented translators I know quit, short-term or long-term. And then there are talented people who would never even consider to work in translation, because the pay is so absymal …
One of the frustrating things about this is talented translators will move to better paying agencies or will put in less effort, so the client's going to get poorer and poorer quality translations without knowing it. OR they'll find out and stop using that agency. They're only hurting themself.
Just received an email from that agency advising they were lowering the rates for all vendors. They know most can't fight back.
I guess their own clients (global brands) will keep paying the same prices and expecting premium translation. Unfortunately, they'll just get poorly edited AI translation.

I think I said this a while ago while arguing with people who said that bots can do law / medicine.
The difficulty in practice is not simply knowing the symptoms of a clinical presentation. It is understanding that you have to ask people questions to make sure you understand what is happening.
