Willis cancelled IREX because the final cost was going to be $3bn

Ferries that are critical for goods transport.

$4bn for a tunnel so politicians can get to the airport faster? And that’s before the costs escalate as they always do.

Sounds pretty dumb to me.

The Clean Car Standard requires importers to improve the average emissions of the imported fleet over time, or pay a penalty. Turns out there was a third option: do nothing and lobby the government to delete the penalty. Well spotted @robertmclachlan.bsky.social
The NZ car industry has made no progress towards meeting the 2025 emissions standards. Are they even trying?

I’ll be in NZ for the better part of the next fortnight—Wellington, Auckland, and a quick jaunt to Hamilton on Te Huia—and of course I’ll be resuming my very official Pie Inspector role. What bakeries in those three cities can I simply not afford to miss? Who’s doing the finest stuff right now?

$4 BILLION to save 'up to 10 minutes' during peak traffic. Fucking hell - imagine what that $4B could do for housing, education, health, etc, in Aotearoa.

"Nothing in ACC's proposals actually looks at rehabilitation,"
- ACC advocate Warren Forster

"It's all about 'how can we ramp up exits, how can we get more people coming off the scheme', and that's the antithesis of the statutory purpose. It's the antithesis of why we have ACC in NZ."

The car-cult just wants more, bigger roads but what we really need is more public transport, more protected bike lanes, safer streets and better choices in towns and cities that are designed for people, not cars.

It is worth noting that this is a pattern amongst the likes of media, who inevitably paint a woman who has laid harassment, assault, rape, etc allegations against men as somehow less than pure & innocent, thus casting aspersions on her validity, with whatever denials that this is what they're doing.
It bears remembering that this woman, according to the IPCA report, sent at least 36 emails to media outlets, presumaby including NZME, as well as the PM, Police Minister, and police command in Dec 2023 & Jan 2024, and they did fuck-all about it too

Perspective with Heather du Plessis-Allan: The woman in the Jevon McSkimming saga wasn't innocent here
So it turns out the woman with whom Jevon McSkimming had an affair, whose warnings police ignored and who police charged instead of investigating McSkimmin
