Employment bill is worst attack on workers in decades - NZCTU
The NZCTU Te Kauae Kaimahi is condemning select committee changes to the Employment Relations Amendment Bill, which would give bad employers an even greater ability to exploit workers.

BONKERS!

The Luxon Govt’s rewrite of the RMA laws allows companies to claim financial compensation (from taxpayers) when councils introduce rules to limit pollution or protect the environment.

Let that sink in.

One thing about climate change: it disproves the capitalist ideology that poor people's suffering is their own fault.

Billionaires emit as much in a day as the world's 4 billion poorest emit in a yr, yet those 4 billion humans suffer most from climate impacts.

This is inequality, and it is evil.

TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

On the bright side, when you apply for a building permit in this area (Richardson Bay Shoreline), the County requires you to sign away your right to sue for damages if it ever has to abandon the street due to SLR. This is crucial policy being fought in many places - including elsewhere in Marin.

Run 2 of couch-to-5k done: 8 x 1 minute running with 90s walk in between. Today was harder - warmer weather, no tailwind. Big thank you to my sponsors!!
Run 1 of couch-to-5k done. Week 1 is 8 x 1 minute running with 90s walk in between, on 3 days during the week. Most of it was wind-assisted today (thanks Wellington)
I have signed up for the Round the Bays Sunday 15 Feb. This is a challenge, as I'm currently at "couch" in the "couch to 5k"programme. I have run 5k before but it was a decade ago. If you donate to Rainbow Youth here, I will feel shamed into following through with the 10 weeks training.
