A lot of EU citizens learning just now that The Hague is prevented from holding US politicians accountable because the US has a stipulation that we'll kill them if they try. It must be very anxiety inducing to realize just how awful this place really is.

In full context it is very alarming that the US acts like this to Canada and the EU but a lot of us were angry in the past. I suspect that many International Law Respecters are largely alarmed now that the targets are imperial core nations.

That is to say, white.

Noticing that now that Canada and the EU are being treated the same way by the US the same way the US treats the global south, suddenly they're very concerned with accountability and stopping the US. But when it's Venezuela they applaud. It's fascinating.

I need people to wrap their minds around the fact that here in Minneapolis, ICE broke the window of a vehicle yesterday, pepper sprayed the occupants, and arrested them, and shot another observer in the face today, and OBSERVERS ARE STILL GOING OUT TO PROTECT THEIR NEIGHBORS AT MASSIVE PERSONAL RISK
I’m eating lunch, I’m having a panic attack, I’m charging my phone, and then I’m going back out to try and keep my neighborhood safe.

Worth noting that Minnesota Public Radio is NOT doing that. They're interviewing people on the ground, chasing down witnesses and facts, and treating ICE statements with the appropriate amount of skepticism.
Sigh. The NPR national news brief at the top of the hour mentioned the shooting and simply cited the DHS statement.
I truly don't think mainstream journalists in the U.S are prepared to cover state violence

There's now a second video from a different angle which I won't post here for obvious reasons but my humble opinion is that ICE agent shot that lady because he wanted to. That's it

DHS tweeted this yesterday. Little more than 24 hours later, ICE agents just shot and killed a legal observer in Minneapolis.

They also killed someone in Camarillo in July. The way that the invasion of LA has been memory holed even as it continues to this day, makes me insane
It's very clear from the commentary exploding on the timeline right now that hardly anyone outside Chicago knows ICE shot and killed a man in his car here in the fall.

It's probably not your fault—too much news.

But if you're choosing to jump in & *report* today, please contextualize. Thanks.

It's good to use the resources at hand to fight because sometimes you win. Also, I keep thinking of the period after this man was killed and how a group of people tried to impose a new social reality. It didn't work. This too is a lesson.
