I've had to explain that no, I cannot pencil and ink a 260-page GN in two months, do you even understand the words you're saying to me? I've been asked to design characters, pencil, ink, and color a 200-page GN myself in eight months (I said no).

When I want to blow people's minds, I point out that a comic page might average five panels a page. That's 1,250 individual drawings for a 250-page GN.
I wish I'd thought sooner to explain to tradpub editors that illustrating a graphic novel is not like writing a prose novel or illustrating a picture book, a 250-page GN is actually like illustrating eight picture books.

This thread is about graphic novels which are a different level, but I have this with picture books! EVERY pub approaches me in a panic because they're behind their own schedule, and they decide they're gonna make up that ground in the ILLUSTRATION phase?! The one that takes the longest!
This is a ridiculous way to run a business, which is why after I turn this book in I'm not doing it anymore! I can't spend the rest of my career arguing with editors about why I'm physically incapable of drawing ten comic pages a day.

everyone is busy replying to this post with their hobbies but honestly in light of furries driving off a trans woman I think the analysis “political clusters are bad” is dangerously wrong. the way that fandoms don’t have good politics drives toxicity, not people being explicitly political.
i think this site really needs to figure out how to grow the non-politics verticals (the baseball moment was a good thing!) because i suspect a lot of the bad clusters come out of the political clusters driving 95% of ENG-lang posts
I'd be happy with big non politics accounts.
