Apropos of nothing:

If I haven't turned off replies, anyone is welcome to respond to my posts. I know the difference between social media and a private group chat, so I'm not going to go all Surprised Pikachu and pretend you're intruding on my privacy just because you replied to an open post.
Not a fan of how the rebuttals consistently decline to actually contest anything, opting instead to vaguely imply that the substance is irrelevant because the source is dismissable. Way too reminiscent of very familiar Protect The Family tactics. Not a fan.
Not a fan at all.
Paid the dollar.

*sigh*

Yeah, the writing falls short of what I'd like to have seen for reporting of this type, but that doesn't negate the material facts (which I've seen nobody thus far dispute or rebut). More neutral writing wouldn't make it not-bad.

Story time!

Back in the day, I was very deeply into Pathfinder 1e. They had a Rules Questions forum where people could ask and answer. I was very good at it, not just answering but explaining how the rules interacted to *produce* that answer.

Then there was the old guard.

Solo But Not Alone 6!

Do it, buy the games.

What, are you afraid of an amazing deal with a huge variety of games? What, you worried you won't find one you like in a bouquet of journaling games, meditations, dungeon crawls, and more?

Scared of helping @takethis.org bring mental health supports?

hot take:

video games as a medium, along with people's collective game literacy, took a nosedive about the time everyone decided their new favorite pejorative was "linear," and we still haven't recovered from the damage done

Would you people PLEASE put alt text on your images?

Not only does it help people with vision issues, when you leave it out it bypasses my muted words filter I have in place for my mental health. Then I see shit I have specifically taken measures NOT to see because of your laziness.

As much as I'd love to say EarthBound and Yoshi's Island (because they're both so good), they're both late enough in the life cycle of their genres that they sort of stretch/play with those genres a bit, so there's probably a "better representative" preceding each.
I actually am curious to know what people think are the earliest video games that have a serious claim to being the best in their genre. Not like “good for the time,” but like genuinely better than anything else out there.

Putting forward TMNT 4: Turtles in Time (SNES) for side-scrolling beat-em-ups.

There's a surprising amount of depth and variety in the gameplay while still being straightforward and approachable, plus the animation has way more character and charm than you usually get in that genre.
