Worth noting that this response actually concedes that what Pritzker said is true.

James Carville's electoral record of managing/consulting on campaigns in Texas:

- 1984 Senate election w/ Lloyd Doggett: Lost in the general by 17%
- 1990 Gov election w/ Jim Mattox: Lost in the primary
- 1992 Pres election w/ Clinton: Lost Texas
- 2004 Pres election w/ Kerry: Lost Texas
Saw a Bulwark guy say that anybody who thinks James Carville is a problematic figure can't win Texas and my only reaction is that I straight up don't know who that is

Ossoff: We were told that MAGA was for working-class Americans. But this is a government of, by, and for the ultra-rich. It’s the wealthiest Cabinet ever. This is the Epstein class. They are the elites they pretend to hate.

Goddamn. Ossoff has got the juice.

they think it's sporting for them to sometimes go to prison if they can still come back to the Hamptons with their social circles intact. we need to raze the social circles to the ground so that there's nothing for them to return to
We need to start sending these people to prison to remind them that there are real consequences in life.

Restrict to ~20 mile land border jurisdiction, everyone hired after 2024 who you can’t lay charges on goes on the remote southern border in the summer and the remote northern border in the winter to encourage addition by subtraction, remove from DHS and put under DoI would I think be the start.
i think its pretty doable to sketch out a world of what unfucked immigration and customs administration looks like, but i do not not know how handle demobilizing the BP side of CBP (and there is also the issue of nuking the RGV economically) at scale or at speed

I feel lots of things that felt like, were billed as, self-actualization read in retrospect as canaries in the coal mine for the fraying commitments we owe to each other as members of a society.
Relatedly, I recall a lot of "the joy of canceling plans" jokes and memes from the 2010s and now folks are talking about a loneliness epidemic, and, well...
People will scoff at virtue signaling and then wonder why today’s billionaires don’t build museums, libraries, hospitals, and universities like Gilded Age ones did.

Tolerance > Acceptance > Affirmation

Biggest problem for 1.0 IMO was demanding everyone hew to affirmation.

2.0 needs to exhibit far better judgment on where to push social norms across that spectrum.

THE REPUBLICANS STARTED THIS MID-DECADE REDISTRICTING UNDER THE RATHER CHILDISH DELUSION THAT THEY WOULD GERTYMANDER DEMOCRATS, BUT THAT DEMOCRATS WOULDN'T GERRYMANDER THEM BACK

THEY HAVE SOWED THE WIND

THEY SHALL REAP THE WHIRLWIND

If there's one benefit from all the Republican criminality and corruption it's that you never have to treat them like good faith interlocutors again. Every currently living Trump accomplice should be treated at most to a reflexive "Eat Shit" for life, and that's better than they deserve

Understanding society is dangerous to reactionaries selling racial animus & crushing austerity, while enriching the rich
I do want to shout-out my fellow sociologists, who have collectively created a discipline so woke that not a single one of our introductory textbooks can make it past Florida's censors.

Great work everyone.

trump creating the incentive and permission structure for democrats to do insane 2010-era gerrymandering of their own may turn out to be one of the biggest self-owns of all time. dems are now pretty likely to emerge with an advantage from the 2025-26 redistricting wars

on the balance i think partisan gerrymandering is bad but the only way it ends is if democrats weaponize it against republicans everywhere they can. wiping out republican lawmakers in blue states might bring the GOP to the table to end the practice.

gotta agree with this. at some point we all have to contend with what good faith is actually for and extend it accordingly
A lot of our political discourse would be easier if we didn't extend good faith to people who would never extend it back.

i think it is particularly interesting that Barro, McArdle, and Douthat saw the moralizing change which has happened since the 1970s not as "you might get arrested for fucking a 12-year-old" but rather "your friends on Martha's Vineyard might cut you off for fucking her."
i would say that it's class solidarity but at this point i think it's just a tic. they don't even really process anything anymore

Sometimes I sympathize with Trump, because it probably is genuinely very confusing why you can talk about purging the lifeblood of the nation of foreign filth and nobody cares, and then you post some dumb racist video and everyone starts yelling at you.
I found the dumbest most pathetic post on the internet today:

What is America doing to hold the Epstein class accountable?

We need to haul these powerful men before Congress.
