Actor and tabletop RPG nerd, the order depends upon the week. I handle marketing for Evil Hat Productions. Currently playing a long game to get cast as Ned Flanders in the live action Simpsons movie.

My one addition to the D&D/Stranger Things discourse is this: I honestly doubt the producers didn't know the Sorcerer wasn't in AD&D. They have 30 people on speed dial for that. It's far more likely someone said "How about a wizard with psionics" and the writers said "Nah. Sorcerer sounds cooler."

Knives Out but the murder happens on a BC Ferry that Benoit Blanc is already on and the boat can’t dock until he solves the crime

In this scenario some people are headed to a retreat on a Gulf Island, there’s a high school sports team on board, and the car alarms never stop

@ktwelves.bsky.social I still regret dropping you off so far from the ferry but I know I'd feel worse if I'd taken you two to the "game store" that is basically a Warhammer Organized Play experience

“[Studios are] basically forcing something on to consumers that they’re not asking for. You’re not creating a better experience, you’re not charging less, right? ...The only value currently in this is to the game company and the value is not to the people who are playing the games.”
What's actually involved in getting a human voice actor to record lines for a game, and how does that compare to an AI replacement?

@maddie-b-a.bsky.social speaks to actors and audio engineers like @selmaleh.bsky.social and @jeffvandyck.com to try and demystify what goes into giving games a voice.
How the Cost and Effort of Human Voice Actors Compares to Generative AI
“A well-trained actor will save production in the end because you know the better trained you are, the quicker you can do the job and get what you need”

Just spent the last couple hours watching A Muppet Christmas Carol and opened the app to immediately see a billionaire complaining about how there's no possible way to help the sick and poor, and buddy,,,

"This story doesn't need a sandworm"

This is almost always wrong. Arguably, EVERY story benefits from adding a huge subterranean worm with quasi-mystical or semi-supernatural powers, or equivalent (similar to Moby Dick).

Obviously the bigger the worm, the more literary quality it adds.

Thanks to everyone who, in spite of everything, did something creative this year. Our ability to create is one of the highest and most noble of human capabilities and helps put us in touch with our best selves, something we need more than ever. So, thank you!

Funny animal videos no longer being trustworthy just fucking sucks all around. I love the wonder of animal behavior and what it says about the experience of being alive. It's because it happened in reality that it's so fun. It's not fun if it was just made up. There's no wonder there.
