Reminds me of an old blogpost I read somewhere. OD&D isn't a medieval game, it's a cowboy game. The whole premise is around going out into a "wild frontier" devoid of "civilization" and killing the people who already live there. The manifest destiny and american colonialism are baked into the premis
If someone objects, I pose them a question: can you legitimately not see why fascists love the notion of atomized rugged individualistic "adventurers" killing people and taking their stuff being considered normal within the game world?

Today in librarianship, our IT building burned down recently and IT called me to look at a closet they need cleared out. It contained boxes of forgotten artifacts, including 18th c. French silver crosses, a colonial coffee grinder, LOTS of knives, and more.
