We report: one in a few sunsets, the clouds will turn particularly pink for a few minutes after the sun has gone down. We remember that our expert told us this was caused by Rayleigh scattering, but we do not feel like thinking about Rayleigh scattering at the moment.

What an incredible mark!

I started doing art embroidery last year because my headphones decided to flake vinyl into my mouth. I thought, why not do something incredible that I've always wanted to try? Now I'm doing a larger piece to be framed in a shadowbox.

A common goldeneye, a type of sea duck, points its head up towards the sky as it drinks water. It's neck and body are white with black feathers on its back. It's head is an iridescent green with small watch patches on each side of its face right next to its beak. The one visible eye we can see is gold colored. Water droplets fall from its beak faster than the shutter speed of the camera, making them appear blurry.

We found a 4th egg in #kakapo Waikawa's nest yesterday and found it was fertile. Waikawa has maintained her incredible 100% fertility record: 5 clutches of 4 fertile eggs in 4 breeding seasons. That's unmatched by any other kākāpō. #kakapo2026 #conservation #birds
