Getting along like Unicode in an ASCII file. In a love/hate (but mostly love) relationship with Alabama, Mobile in particular. I like SQL.

And, of course, EVERYTHING I post here is on my own behalf, speaking only for myself, etc. unless explicitly stated

Condé Nast loses my support for silencing BIPOC women writers' and trans voices, and destroying Teen Vogue. How gross that we went from a Freedom of Speech and Expression award to this! www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/bus...
As Condé Nast Folds Teen Vogue Into Vogue’s Website, NewsGuild Condemns the Plan
The union, which reps staffers, says the move was "clearly designed" to blunt the journalism of the brand, which has leaned in to progressive politics.

Since today is Patch Tuesday for November 2025, Microsoft has released GDR updates for SQL Server 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2022.

They address msrc.microsoft.com/update-guide..., which is related to a SQL injection attack.

Trans rights are human rights - but the great state of Alabama disagrees. The state's position on trans issues is one of the things I dislike most about this place.
We live in a world where it's hip to be mean.

Mean is the point, whether we’re talking SNAP benefits or immigration or prison or economics. Human rights, civil rights and common decency are 20th century concepts. Like retirement. Or conversation.

Consider the case of Sim Butler and his family.
He fled Alabama to protect his family, and now he warns the world
“The weight of living in Alabama, of living in fight or flight every day, was something I didn’t realize I was carrying until I got out of there."

‘Nickname’ is not ‘nick’ + ‘name.’

It was originally ‘ekename.’

‘Eke’ was the Middle English word for “also” or “in addition.”

Since ‘ekename’ began with a vowel, people used ‘an’ before it.

Over time, 'an ekename' became 'a nickname.'

Hi.

I’ve been editor-in-chief of Teen Vogue for the last 4.5 years — a dream job, one I never thought a Brown girl from small town Louisiana might hold.

I am so incredibly proud of the work we’ve done and what we accomplished. Our journalism has won major awards. (cont’d)

In 2006 a high school English teacher asked students to write to a famous author & ask for advice.

KURT VONNEGUT - born 103yrs ago today - was the only one to respond.

His reply was a doozy.

Bluesky suspended Sarah Kendzior today for no reason whatsoever. She just shared excerpts of her articles, which were as always incisive and not offensive at all. Hey @pfrazee.com this is super not OK. I know her- we've interacted a fair bit via chats and her work is essential.

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

Watson and Crick intentionally misrepresented the extent to which they relied on Rosalind Franklin’s work, which they were given by her former boss without her knowledge.
Watson and Crick mentioned Franklin by name at the end of their double helix paper, but they were not exactly honest about what they had seen and how much they knew about her work.

There have always been trans people.

There will always be trans people.

The only "trans agenda" is to live authentically.

Removing trans rights, banning trans people from sports, taking away care for trans people puts you on the wrong side of history.

Rosalind Franklin died at 37 of ovarian cancer attributed to radiation exposure from the methods she & her assistant used to photograph a cross-section of the DNA double helix.

Meanwhile, Watson won a Nobel off that work & survived to the ripe old age of 97 by simply: stealing those notes!
