Thistlebloom Farm

Thistlebloom Farm was built in 1860. It has over 77 acres of mixed land, a house, 2 barns and a shed. It is located on Nipmuc and Pocumtuck land (aka Amherst, MA). Sometimes the farm and its current guardian have arguments.
Spouse (who's been going through a lot lately) decided that rather than spending his birthday night at the Amherst Inn (my treat), he wanted to have his birthday breakfast there. So we'll stay the night before and he can wake up and be pampered by humans.

Barn: *creak*

Hens: 👀 "Take us with you!"

Spouse and I had a blissful, 1-night getaway at the Amherst Inn Friday. I've always loved working with them (they buy eggs from us), but this was special. It's a gorgeous, immaculate, quiet place with super-comfortable beds, great breakfasts and lovely hosts! www.amherstinnma.com

We believe in the Constitution, Bill of Rights, separation of powers, and checks and balances.

The U.S. was founded in opposition to monarchy. We fought for democracy over dictatorship.

What the Trump regime is doing is the antithesis of the values this nation was founded upon.

Great visualisation.

Also, at some point this speeds up again. For now, some regions of Greenland and Antarctica accumulate more ice as temperatures rise, while others lose more ice. As temps rise, the areas losing more become bigger, and the ones accumulating more eventually become smaller.
Despite some misinformation in recent headlines, the long-term trend is still downward for land ice in #Antarctica and #Greenland...

My visualization can also be downloaded at zacklabe.com/arctic-sea-i.... It was just updated for data through February 2025.

🚨 I'm calling it:

The two year average peaks at 1.6°C above pre-industrial.

As I said back in November, not expected, but not surprising either, considering accelerated global warming.

The Paris limit of +1.5 is dead and buried.

Great piece by @herdyshepherd.bsky.social on the fallacy of using offsets to pay for nature restoration - even if they work (& there are good reasons to be doubtful), they could only offset what is being lost now, not recover what needs to be restored unherd.com/2025/02/labo...

The Cumbrian poet Norman Nicholson (1914-1987) included 'hog-holes' (different spelling) in his wonderful poem 'Wall':
A wall walks slowly.
At each give of the ground,
Each creak of the rock's ribs,
It puts its foot gingerly,
Arches its hog-holes,
Lets cobble and knee-joint
Settle and grip.
