Happy 50th birthday to Patti Smith‘s Horses. That album still sounds as powerful today as it did then (or as it did when I discovered it years later). The opening line is like a hand grenade being thrown.

And 79 years old Patti Smith is still the coolest person ever.

If you're looking for something to dislodge that Gordon Lightfoot earworm, tomorrow is ALSO the 50th anniversary of Patti Smith's debut album. Like Bruce Springsteen says, starts with "probably the greatest opening line of anyone’s debut album in rock ’n’ roll."

This is a fun piece:

In 1975, she transformed poetry into punk. Neither would ever be the same. More than 20 artists who made and admired the album share their memories.

The true purpose of Bluesky has been revealed and it's Michael Stipe telling us the lyrics to It's The End Of The World As We Know It
Ok its ‘feed it off an aux, speak, grunt no strength, the ladder start to clatter with fear fight down height, wire in a fire representing seven games, a government for hire and a combat site’.

VIZ Media quietly added an AI-translated manga to their app and hoped no one would notice. We did.

Manga deserves better than cheap, soulless automation. This is a betrayal of translators, fans, and the art form.

I think some people have trouble seeing fascism as anything other than 1940s Germany.

But I think 'people going to a comic convention needing to have a plan in case the government's goons show up to disappear people' is a pretty good demonstration of what it can look like in 2025.

You know lads, I have to truly say: of all the possible forms of pornography, going after the one that doesn't even involve real people really does put an end to the idea that anti-porn crusades are ever about protecting women

This situation with itch.io is an absolute mess and for a conservative group to singlehandedly harm so many developers' livelihoods is alarming. No one should have that power.

What could possibly go wrong? It’s not like words can have multiple meanings. And there are certainly no languages that are heavily relying on context. No writer will ever use neologisms. And not a single novel will include completely made up languages. I’m sure these „translations“ will be fine.
