“Shit,” REDACTED blurted out and reflexively knelt down on the wet grass, Addy placed on her thighs. “What is it?” Isaac asked. “Stop whatever you’re up to,” REDACTED said loudly into Addy’s ear. A quick touch at the neck offered little palpable, instead there were agonizingly slowing and fading thumps. “Hey!” REDACTED shouted at Addy. “Do I run for help?” Isaac asked sharply, but REDACTED barely heard him over the panicked white noise mounting in her ears. “Stop it!” REDACTED grabbed Addy tighter, shook her, to revive her from whatever had befallen her. “Come back!” Then REDACTED felt a weak twitch, and her forceful desperate squeeze of Addy’s blanket-covered sides caused a tremble in response. The racing light traces on the skin returned to their normal intensity. “Shouldn’t I get help then?” Isaac repeated in an insistent tone. “Addy?” REDACTED said, then got up and added, “Let’s go. Let’s just go.” She almost slipped on the grass, shuddering, balancing her girlfriend poorly. There, Addy finally huffed over her shoulder and patted her. “Is this a common occurrence?” Isaac asked, rushing after them. REDACTED shook her head, marching ahead with urgency. “Isaac, it’s complicated. It’s not like... Addy, please communicate with me?”

This meeting was pointless. Professor Abbott turned to Perry. “The main worry beyond erasure of her mind is if it were to absorb her magic, isn’t it?” Like in this very second from my pacifying spell? “And that it’d destabilize?” A discussion ensued, while Addison tried to find a small, lively plant amid the gray out on campus, scouring the outside ground. Early students passed by, but she ignored them. There, that flower-shaped ghost entity, up close it had a tiny life web. Its inner flow was fascinating, slower, barely a pulse but rather a glacial wave that was intense. “So, does Ms. Clark want that?” Abbott asked with a raised voice. “The removal, should we attempt it, as futile as it likely is?” No. Like that would work. “She says she doesn’t,” REDACTED relayed. “The school is her guardian, isn’t it?” Perry asked. Hayes shook his head. “Her mother is. But we can’t risk a removal against Addy Clark’s will anyway. It would be a useless formality.” “You can’t?” Perry asked. “Isn’t this grave enough to consider it?” Ronda raised her eyebrows. “She can’t even take a simple patching rune. That makes an attempt very immoral, since if—” “Now, hold on.” Perry scratched his chin and followed up with medical questions Addison both only half understood and didn’t want discussed.

Saying “trans people shouldn’t exist” isn’t violence, it’s “debate.”

Passing laws that criminalize care or strip rights isn’t violence, it’s “policy differences.”

But expressing anger at the people who advocate that? That’s “glorifying violence” and gets shut down.

I had a brilliant pain management doctor; he did so much good. The last visit I had with him, he was using ChatGPT to look up conditions. He’s a Harvard/Mayo Clinic doctor. He wasn’t listening to me, wrote down the wrong treatment, screwed up the insurance, etc…He is no longer at the practice.

A mage, frail and hunched, came to the entrance after Ludovic had used the iron knocker. “How dare you!” the mage screamed at them through the crack of the door, hoarse and sharp. “Down this path, I’ll void you! Including her, demon-infected! You reckless f**king buffoons!” “Both seem to have resisted,” Ludovic said. “Like your dimwitted kind knows—” The mage’s angry spitting melted in Addison’s mind. “Please,” Mom said after Addison had inadvertently huffed. “Travel at the base, f**kheads!” Then the mage slammed the door. The wind bit into Addison’s cheeks while they stood still. “It’s half an hour away,” Ludovic said. “What’s her state?” “She’s so cold,” Mom cried. “I’m better, but she’s barely moving.” The protesting grunt from Addison’s mouth made Mom stop. She unglued one of her fingers from Mom’s shoulder and raised it. “She’s pointing along the path,” Ludovic said in an upbeat tone. Mom shrieked and her head shot around. “She’s doing what?!” After an eternity of a walk they stopped at a lonely bench, out with them in the middle of nowhere, the path branching up ahead. When Addison’s body was sat down onto the horrible icy snow and dragged up by its arm to barely stand, she drifted off.
