Seattle's Mamdani is winning by an absurdly small margin over our incumbent mayor, who once pulled a gun on a pregnant woman in a parking lot.

Some community-org colleagues are unsure about using Google Docs for meeting minutes because they are concerned that Google might train models on the docs in such a way that facts from the minutes will be exposed to the public Internet through chatbot conversations.
That's wrong, right? Have a cite?

40 men Trump sent to CECOT tell the NYT they were beaten, tortured, and sexually assaulted. The details are worse than you can imagine.
We can’t let them get away with this. Miller and the other architects of this sadism need to go to prison.

no one involved in this case disputes DULF has saved many lives. shutting down initiatives to prevent consumption of poisoned drugs leads to more preventable deaths. sad to see the law used as a cudgel to justify killing people through government inaction & indifference
Founders of Vancouver’s Drug User Liberation Front Eris Nyx and Jeremy Kalinin have just been found guilty of drug trafficking.

I hadn't considered that some aspects of your crash investigation can get much more annoying if a plane crashes into an auto parts store instead of a field. Is that charred widget a piece of flight hardware or is it for a Honda Civic, etc
UPS and FedEx, two of the world’s largest cargo airlines, said on Friday that they had grounded their fleets of MD-11 planes, days after one of the aircraft was involved in a deadly crash in Kentucky.

Boeing, the plane’s manufacturer, said it had recommended the grounding as a precaution while it conducts further analysis.

don't tell them you're defunding the police. tell them you're finding free market solutions
Civilianization of police response should be sold to the public on grounds it understands, efficiency and cost. Hiring a 911 response contractor to handle traffic accidents made police much better at their job and also it costs less.

Getting new details on this now:
As the arrest unfolded, teachers pleaded with the agents telling them the teacher had a work permit. The agents went into multiple rooms looking for teachers while children were present. One teacher hid with a child in her care while the agents stormed the facility.

Raids inside day cares had been off limits until this year, when, on his first day in office, President Donald Trump removed that protection.
The arrest reportedly took place in front of children.

Notably, @royalpratt.bsky.social appears to have gotten his hands on the unredacted copy of the preliminary injunction motion seemingly filed in error yesterday before being deleted and replaced with a redacted version.
Here's what that bit looks like in the public filing vs. the unredacted.

well, Carney's not proposing an austerity budget. shrinking the federal workforce and slashing immigration are regrettable, and we will pay for retreating from climate goals, but the new infrastructure spending does sound bold, exciting, and meant for the moment

Some breaking news: in a special Vancouver Police Board meeting only announced over the weekend, the police board has requested a $50 million increase to their budget for 2026.
This comes as other departments across the city are trying to cut staff to ensure a property tax freeze for next year.
