AND supporting your local library is super important! If you actually DO want books to be available to everyone, the library *already exists* and is staffed by the people who are deep in the trenches of fighting censorship! Supporting the library is doing actual good for your community!
TAPS SCREEN

For like the zillionth time: Libraries are FREE for you, but WE still get compensated for our work!!
Just saw someone claim that authors who want to be paid for their work are "class traitors" because we "only let the wealthy" read our books, and I think I need to go into the woods to scream into the night for a bit.

It's $5, not your first-born child! I need that $5 for health insurance!

Related: I feel like a lot of the piracy vs buying discourse (🤢 that this is even a thing) gets framed as stealing money from individual authors vs. stealing from faceless corporate publishers when for most authors it’s about whether or not they’ll get to publish another book.

And yes, we should feel bad about serious fuck ups.

But we should also be clear that fuck ups are a part of being human and will happen.

And that often fuck ups are a shared responsibility. And that usually they speak to a GROUP lack of training or preparedness.

It’s widely known (and, I think, pretty uncontroversial) that learning requires effort — specifically, if you don’t have to work at getting the knowledge, it won’t stick.

Even if an LLM could be trusted to give you correct information 100% of the time, it would be an inferior method of learning it.
Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

Mind you this exists because of assault. The bag is being blocked because other men are assaulting women at such high numbers that the company HAS to do something.
The men in Japan aren't happy about the women only train cars either but, such is life.

Being able to grow old and soft is such a tremendous gift, an unimaginable luxury for basically the entirety of human existence, and it’s wasted on so many people who have been made insecure by truck commercials to the point of wanting to undo all of this. It’s so bogus.

What I wish conservatives understood: making people around you happier, healthier, and calmer serves your self interest. Even if you don't care about other people, having happy, comfortable people around you is empirically better. They are more productive and do not set fires you have to put out.

You mean the company that's currently being struck by its workers and the company that's currently being boycotted because of its terrible DEI policy rollbacks? Why not just call this the Chocolate Mint Racist Scab Frostie?
Beginning Monday, a Frozen Peppermint Hot Chocolate drink will be available exclusively at Starbucks cafés inside Target stores.

The chains are hoping the drink can drum up excitement from customers this holiday season.

when you understand that patriarchy views children as sexual property it all makes sense. there's no hypocrisy. exposure to queerness & transness threatens to "corrupt" the father's property, to "lead them astray" into self-determination, to taint their future sexual value. CSA is permissible as >
Thatcher's government did this with Section 28, banned the "promotion of homosexuality" as a danger to children, while actively protecting Jimmy Savile and who knows how many other pedophiles. It's the same damn playbook.
I cannot begin to properly articulate how upsetting it is to have had people baselessly accuse trans people of being groomers and pedophiles only for it to come out that they were deliberately doing this as part of a project to provide cover to actual groomers and pedophiles in positions of power

I hope we can get there one day, so we can stop spending billions and trashing the environment avoiding having to think about words.

Why whenever I make up an "easily pronounced for English speakers" fantasy name, so many younger folks are unable to guess at its pronunciation.
