Husband to a gorgeous wife, father to two great kids, greying leatherfairy, infamous furry, and world-class software engineer. If you can read this, you're running code I wrote.
Today, on Unsolved Mysteries of Lewd: Why would anyone draw the legendary "dick sucking monster" with a ball-gag? Doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose?

(The DSM, if you don't want to google it, is a weird hybrid of the big-lipped plants from Mario Bros. with some kind of scalie.)

The Republican Administration has every reason, EVERY REASON, to assume "work with us" and "give us everything we want, and accept you'll get nothing in return" mean the same thing.

After all, it's what Democrats do nowadays. Cowardly, compromised (or kompromatized), or corrupt. Take your pick.
Shaheen: "We've heard from a number of our colleagues on the other side of the aisle that they're willing to come to the table, they're willing to work with us once the govt is open to get this done. We've heard the same thing from the White House. So now we'll see if they're really gonna work w/us"

I've been there, and yeah, they're adorable. But a penguin colony is quite possibly the most horrific smell I've ever experienced.
We captured 18 birds today and then we surveyed the colony for bird flu, which we thankfully saw no evidence of.

Cape Crozier remains magical!

Reminder: For every woman who has reported using a gun in self-defense, five other women who owned guns were killed with their own weapon, usually by angry male "intimates."

Homicide is the No. 1 way pregnant women die, research has showed, but a new study finds that they are even more vulnerable than other women of childbearing age when there’s a gun involved. https://cnn.it/49M5XLr

SNAP embarrassed him. So now he's against SNAP. SNAP is now the James Comey of government assistance programs.
President Trump criticized the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) during a Fox News interview tonight, saying people "get it automatically now so the number is many times what it should be, it's disgraceful."
Trump says "we can reform" SNAP
"SNAP is supposed to be if you are down and out," Trump said on Fox News this evening.

Some Republican ran the numbers, discovered the tax revenues blue states derive from cannabis sales, and decided that the backlash from this and the increases in opiod dependency and crime would be less than the pain they'd inflict.

Quick reminder: when you take into account mining, ore storage and processing, commodity fuel transport and storage, and long-term storage of mining waste, electricity from coal uses (and by orders of magnitude degrades) more land than solar or wind per MWh.

Also, today I learned what men who sexualize My Little Pony call what happens to a mare's nipples when she's pregnant, and the phrase is, to my mind, so utterly revolting I shall probably have trouble sleeping tonight. "Teats," I could handle. That phrase.... no. *Shudder*.

So the greek word "Ophidia," meaning "snake," was applied to eels. Snakes were assigned "Squamata." But it turns out that the wrong eels, not real eels, but "cusk-eels." True eels were assigned "Anguilla."

Taxonomy weirds speciesism.

At the cafe recently, a young man who has his own waxed mustachios and dagger beard passed by and said to me, "I have to say, that is some excellent facial hair. Your goatee is perfect."

And I had to say, "It's not a goatee."

"It's not?"

"No," I explained. "It's a van Dyke."

It's nice that every once in awhile (MTW for one, TTh for the other) I get to hang out with literary peeps and talk about the books we're all enjoying together, sit in awe of one character's arc or the author's ability to make avoidant, sarcastic people highly sympathetic, and not be "political."

My latest at @comicsjournal.bsky.social: I talked to @oglaf.bsky.social! Not the character, but rather, the people who create it.

They don't do many interviews, so this was a real treat. They're funny people! Turns out they're not super private, just...really bad at PR?

The reason everyone thinks establishment democrats hate progressives more than they hate nazis is that any time a progressive criticizes the party online, establishment democrats with anti-trump messages who never engage with nazis will show up to denigrate progressives all day.
