Construction and agriculture are contracting because they cannot find workers.

The fastest growing blue collar sector on January 21st, 2025 was installation and maintenance of renewable energy sources, growing three times as fast as the economy in general.

The Republicans want to kill it.
NEW from me:

The US is losing blue-collar jobs for the first time since early COVID or the Great Recession—the country has lost 65k jobs over the last year as manufacturing, transport, & mining employment decline, while growth in construction has nearly zeroed out

The Department of Homeland Security recently tweeted that 1/3rd of the people in the United States seeking "liberty, prosperity, and a more perfect union" are illegitimate and must leave, accept forceful expulsion, or be killed.

By Graham's logic...
GOP Senator Lindsey Graham: “And to the Ayatollahs, you need to understand, if you keep killing your people who are demanding a better life, Donald J. Trump is going to kill you.”

The final episode of MASH is still canonically great.

Shows with planned arcs tend to do better, so Avatar: The Last Airbender was pretty awesome.
Given that apparently the Stranger Things finale was meh (idk, didn't watch it, just the scuttlebutt) and we're not that far removed from the disastrous GOT finale that retroactively made everyone have never cared about the show:

What's the *best* ending to a show you've ever seen? Quote/reply etc

Truth: "If you tell people you had cereal for dinner, they'll nod because they've been there. If you tell people you had lasagne for breakfast, they back away slowly like you might explode at any moment."

Trump: “I am pleased to announce that the Interim Authorities in Venezuela will be turning over between 30 and 50 MILLION Barrels of High Quality, Sanctioned Oil, to the United States of America. This Oil will be sold at its Market Price, and that money will be controlled by me, as President”

On Marco Rubio's apathy:

"When Times New Roman appears in a book, document, or advertisement, it connotes apathy. It says, “I submitted to the typeface of least resistance.” Times New Roman isn’t a typeface choice so much as the absence of a typeface choice."

Times New American: A Tale of Two Fonts
A less romantic truth is that aesthetic standards rarely travel alone; power tends to follow in their wake. An episode at the U.S. State Department this month makes exactly this point.

Nah, heterosexuality isn't cringe. Straight culture as implemented in most of the world is cringe. Straight culture is where women have to navigate a sea of men who were trained as boys to hate girls and hate puberty for making them want (but not like!) girls.

I remember in high school, they started doing that my senior year, but my AP teacher still made us read full novels and do book reports. Like I had 4 full novels to read in a semester. (But they weren't all tomes. And many times I had a choice in what I could read.)

I hate that's changed so much.

There is no such thing as "law." You can look at every atom, every proton, every quark, and you will not find laws as humans use them. Laws are conventions of behavior we enact to enable us to live together without fear.

This is a wish to make people fearful.

"Rowling Syndrome" is (my name for) the pattern whereby someone with generally rounded interests initially exhibits mild transphobia, then surprisingly rapidly becomes obsessed with trans hate to the exclusion of other topics. (Stephen Fry was just interviewed about the index case.)

I really Lord Byron's epic poem "Manfred," while the titular character lays dying, a priest begs him to convert and confess, and Manfred essentially responds "If God is there, I shall approach him as myself."
Scott Adams assuming God and religion is like a contract and that the creator of the universe doesn't know when someone's being an insincere twat.

Conversion is not just saying magic words. The evangelicals lied to you, Scott.
