Oh, a "scalie" is a furry, but for (land-based) critters with scales. Snakes and the like. Sometimes lizards, kobolds, and minor dragons. Major dragons and fish are their own things, at opposite ends of the, er, scale. Cetacea are a whole different kettle.

The difference, I said, is that a goatee encompasses the mouth with the hair of the mustache and beard connected to make a frame. A van Dyke, on the other hand, has a clear separation between the two.

There were vast stretches of mangrove-covered land in Florida back in the 1970s Broward-Dade with barely more than a few logging and maintenance roads, and I spent many, many hours abusing what was most definitely not a mountain bike riding them, far, far from noisy, chaotic, demanding humanity.
