People don’t vote their interests, they vote their values. Rural white people vote to give the rich tax breaks for the same reason liberal immigrant doctors vote to get themselves taxed more.
Why do poor, rural people vote for the ultra-wealthy's best interests over their own?

It would be nice if we had more high profile dems pointing out the fact that Epstein’s best friend is telling the feds to stop going after child pornography
Online child sexual abuse material (CSAM) has been getting noticeably less attention and follow-up from authorities, per NYT, as the DHS is overwhelmingly used for Stephen Miller’s immigration crusade

The rhetorical move of the midwit abolitionists will be, you just haven’t read theory. I’ve read theory. This is explicit in Mariame Kaaba’s work. it’s all over the anarchist zines you love. The theorists who won’t go there still will not present an alternative that isn’t prison by another name.

this is the single biggest reason the Democratic Tea Party has to be real and immediate, because the party as currently constituted will not do this
something I've been thinking about if/when we retake power is we're really going to need to shock & awe the elites with accountability. hit em hard and fast. gotta break the entire system and don't give it time to regroup.
Important to understand the Epstein stuff and the fascism and the corruption are, in a lot of ways, really all the same story from different angles: powerful men who can and do abuse vulnerable people around them because they can, and because systems of elite accountability catastrophically failed

QANON CULTIST IN 2017: "In this 1,879 page thread I will unravel the byzantine system of codewords and phrases the global elite use to mask their pedophile cabal."

JEFFREY EPSTEIN WRITING AN EMAIL AT THE SAME TIME: "helo its me jeff had fun cmmitting sex crimes wit u lst weeknd"
pretty funny in retrospect that QAnon hinged on the idea that powerful elites at the highest levels of government were smart enough to talk in code when sending emails to each other about their despicable crimes

what the formulation "israel has a right to exist" is meant to stand for is "the nation of israel has a right to define its electorate such that particular people are represented and others are not," which is something so plainly ridiculous that it cannot be stated outright.

“No one should be in a cage, but also there are some people who probably shouldn’t be roaming about” is a perfectly defensible take which America has no way of implementing
my controversial opinion that nobody likes is basically that we have no escalation ladder, both here and for incarceration. there are a lot of people who should not be, properly speaking, free, but unfortunately we have basically one level of restricted freedom and it's "torture pit"

you cannot create a viable third party without changing the constitution.

to change the constitution, you need control of one of the major political parties, at minimum.

anyone refusing to accept this is a fucking child i'm tired of entertaining.

The thing about this whole situation is that it was either extremely good 5D chess from Schumer where he was making offers that seemed super reasonable but knew the GOP wouldn't take, or he kept trying to surrender and the GOP were too stupid to agree

We now know what it was!
it's genuinely mind-boggling how this went from the best maneuver of Schumer's tenure to a complete omnishambling humiliation of the whole caucus in two days
Also like, the Dem leadership can't make a big show of making it about healthcare because it's the only issue that polls well enough for them to risk taking a stand on, blow out the Republicans in state and local elections in apparent vindication of that strategy, and then cave on healthcare anyway.

Really seeing once again, it seems, that the real divide in the Democratic coalition is not left/lib/moderate or anything like that.

It's the fight/no-fight divide. And the 'fight' dems are the ones winning elections.

the move was imo always to start with a take-it-or-leave-it offer that both would be anathema to the GOP and put them on the wrong side of a host of 65-35 issues. and just let them hang themselves.
I will say, I don't know what a plausible *good* outcome was -- the GOP wasn't going to sign off on good bills just because of some bad polls, I don't think online progs or Schumer/Jeffries had a clear plan to win this either?

but the Senate mods / institutionalists are throwing in the towel afaict

the OTHER thing is that no filibuster defender has yet to articulate why it is that people who happen to live in low density states not only deserve additional representation but also deserve to exercise a veto *on top of that*

One thing that strikes me is just how fake all of our problems related to government are

The filibuster isn't in the Constitution, and every single Framer would be apoplectic that it exists.

The government shutdown was invented in 1980

The 9-justices limit was invented to stop the New Deal

I dunno. I do like our government spending less money anywhere they can. I like even more if my taxes go down as a result. Since when is our job to be the world’s mom and dad? Did other countries step up to fill that gap?
