Every time a tech entrepreneur says “we don’t need to stop global warming because AI will” I want to slap them with a fish that says, “if a superhuman intelligence came into being and we asked it how to stop global warming, it would say ‘stop burning fossil fuels, you fools.’”
I’m going to regret asking this, but… what mechanism are people proposing whereby AI will “end scarcity”?
This feels like literal underpants gnomes thinking, and as I never tire of pointing out, it’s being driven by a lot of the same actual people

Finalizing the design for a block print greeting card, I’ve been making a new one each year for vending at a local dark holiday market with a Wild Hunt procession. Looking forward to busting out my carving tools and little print press (I gifted myself a press last year and oh the time it saves).

Shing’s work is a beautiful balance of addressing Serious Stuff with a playful joy, the kind of hopeful perspective that imo will always be valuable regardless of current events. But especially now because of current events.
I am sure that I've hurt our funding a bit by talking (briefly!) about fascism and Gaza at the end of our Kickstarter video, but I promise you that it is overall very funny and good.

I never thought I could sing, started taking vocal lessons a couple months ago. My spouse began to learn how to play a hurdy gurdy last year. These are skills you just have to be interested enough to want to learn. It will also increase your enjoyment of experiencing art and music!
this is also true of music! I believe that making art is all just a fundamental part of the human experience. it's not just something for "talented" people to do.
saw a sad thread from someone who's grown up believing art depends on "talent," and just wanted to reiterate that ANYONE can make comics, with ANY level of artistic skill, and it's FUN and LIFE AFFIRMING to embrace that experience.

I never thought I could sing, started taking vocal lessons a couple months ago. My spouse began to learn how to play a hurdy gurdy last year. These are skills you just have to be interested enough to want to learn. It will also increase your enjoyment of experiencing art and music!
