We live on a small sphere of rock orbiting an ongoing fusion reaction, the whole thing floating along in...nothing at all. It's kinda weird, yes? No one talks about this.
what’s the most obvious on-the-ground truth that your profession knows, but people don’t live like it’s true?
what other jfc-inducing truths are sitting in plain sight for people who know how to see what’s happening?

The latest is up. We added 48 new entries to the Immigration timeline this week, a lot of it very heavy, so our briefing is full of important countermoves by the people fighting back:

ICE detentions have quadrupled in our county in the last year. Our county does indeed have a 287(g) partnership with ICE. It is happening everywhere, all of the time.
I think many people are not aware of the scale of ICE presence in their communities because those kidnappings are happening largely out of sight thanks to partnerships with local law enforcement.

This also drives home just how much of what we are seeing in blue areas is about political retribution.

Seems the Pentagon is testing anti-drone high-energy lasers near Fort Bliss in El Paso, and didn't feel this was dangerous enough to close airspace over.

The FAA administrator disagreed.

Last week, these lasers successfully protected the American people from a sinister children's party balloon.
Airspace closure followed spat over drone-related tests and party balloon shoot-down, sources say
Pentagon officials had undertaken planning to use military technology near Fort Bliss, in El Paso, to practice downing drones.

Memphis is under a federal task force occupation that includes DEA, CBP, ICE, National Guard, state troopers, and (I’m not joking) IRS agents (IRS jackets kidnapping people). No national news.
ICE and CBP haven’t withdrawn from a single fucking U.S. city that they’ve occupied.

My great uncle/step-grandfather (my grandmother married my grandfather's little brother after he left her) was known as Carl but his first name was actually Julius.

Uncle Willis, the sibling I knew best, is also in overalls. Aunt Dot, the only girl and a really lovely human, is being carried by my great-grandfather. My dad tells me stories of his grandma, she was apparently very eccentric and very sweet. She always looks very intriguing in photos.

Picture of my granddad and his siblings, probably around 1920. Uncle Happy is the one on he far right, granddad is the one in overalls with his eyes closed. He ended up looking a whole lot like his daddy.

One of the Dude's was named Floyd. I think Uncle Happy's name was Albert? I dunno!
February 10, 2026 at 11:35 PM
All of my grandfather's siblings had nicknames. He was know as Huck most of his life (his real name was Raymond). His brother, Uncle Happy, worked at Disneyland, there were two Dudes on either side of the family. My great uncle Homer's wife was known as Nehi (she was super short).
Baffled by transphobes insisting that the name on your birth certificate is Your True Name Forever when it was common in my grandparents' generation to just...pick a name you like and use that, nbd. I literally found out both of my grandma's birth certificate first names FROM THEIR OBITUARIES.

we almost never saw pieces like this when the prevailing epstein accusations were based on totally made up claims from the right. now that the actual evidence in the files implicates trump and other right wing figures, we get 5 articles like this a day.
Last week the far right started peddling a narrative that the outrage over Epstein is a moral panic. Today, like clockwork, a more polite version of that narrative appears in the Atlantic.
