Dimon on why JPMorgan Chase is not funding WH Ballroom:
We have an issue, which is anything we do, since we do a lot of contracts with governments here and around the world, we have to be very careful how anything is perceived, and also how the next DOJ is going to deal with it.

Yep! That is a good summary. Higher priority capital projects first and then automation

Adding a 3rd track to the Wye cost $22M in 1981 ($42M in 2025). So maybe $50M-$100M for a 4th track now?

$100M of new track unlocks more service than $2B of automation

you do not hate or blame ralph nader enough for the last quarter century of dysfunction
guy lied to both his donors and voters about what he actually intended to do and probably handed the election to bush in the process and has spent the last quarter century being an absolutely impenetrable shithead about it, providing a permission structure for lolnothingmatters low-info dickheads
November 17, 2025 at 5:34 AM
Public Citizens also makes a good case that, 25 years earlier, Nader was also a key enabler of Reagan’s dismantling of the federal government. Wild that one guy did both, like the politics equivalent of the one guy who invented both leaded gasoline and the ozone hole chemicals

The 26ft clear road width requirement from the US model fire code, Appendix D:

Not only making road diets ineffective and brownfield redevelopment boring and car-centric, but now also being used to prevent construction of taller, safer buildings on streets that don't comply.

This rule needs to go.
The good news: Portland is opting into Oregon's optional 4-story single-stair code section.

The bad news: Portland's fire marshal has managed to insert a poison pill into what appeared to be a take-it-or-leave-it appendix text, likely making it unusable in most cases.

Portland’s new single-staircase rule faces big hurdles
The city now allows single-staircase buildings as tall as four stories, but a fire access rule may make most projects unbuildable, one designer warns.

Hey Claude, when talking to us Marylanders, make sure to emulate the tone from this video. This is what Marylanders sound like when helping each other buy used cars; extrapolate it to providing gov’t services.

From my house in Berkeley to my friends in the Castro could be literally half the price as today.

The reason I like to point this out is that it’s enervating to believe we’re weak and energizing to know we’re strong. Yes, they are very different movements. But 500k can beat authoritarianism in the 1960s, millions upon millions of us can beat fascism today with a much broader base of support.

BART is already the most efficient rail agency in the nation at providing service. It is unreasonable to squeeze even more cost savings than BART already has.

BART riders deserve more service, not less!

SB 63 is critical to avoid massive service cuts at Muni, BART, Caltrain & other systems. We need to stabilize & modernize these systems for the Bay Area’s future.
