The US *does not* have the capacity to impose its will on Latin America if the region’s nations are united and actively support one another. The Monroe Doctrine hinges on divide and rule. It can be deterred through regional unity.

The US cutting off oil to Cuba is truly one of the most depraved acts it is possible to imagine. Hospitals will close, food production will collapse, people will starve. It is urgent for US citizens, and every sane person, to oppose this barbarism with all their might.

1/ ProPublica collected handwritten letters in mid-January from children held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, the same facility where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken.

Hundreds of kids are still detained.

We’ll let the children’s words speak for themselves. 🧵

The point of the AI project is to provoke despair in creative people. They haven’t produced profits or anything anyone wants, just a steady stream of articles about how us artistic types can’t do the thing we’re already doing, making art. Jokes on them, we’re even better at despair than they are.

2/6 PM UPDATE: Joining the list of AJC layoffs is Taylor Croft, a breaking news/ general assignment reporter.

As you can see from this thread, of the names we know so far, every single journalist laid off in one of the largest non-unionized newspapers in the country is a woman or a person of color.
BREAKING: @ajc.com on Tuesday evening said it will lay off approximately 50 staffers, about 15% of its headcount, as it seeks to cut costs and marshal resources to invest in its growth.

The AJC published its last print edition on 12/31. About half of those laid off will come from the newsroom.

« The group that should be in the streets, has been bought off by Jay Z »

A sellout trying to buy off a whole group, in this economy ?
This is bleak: Jes Staley, currently CEO of Barclays, reassuring Epstein that popular revolt against financial elites is unlikely because capitalism and pop culture have defanged social movements, leaving people more invested in consumption than justice.

In this short comic, two data workers describe their work impersonating an “AI” chatbot for a major social media platform. Sleepless nights, penalties for sounding “too human,” and emotional drain are just a few of the job hazards.

This is the move that will ensure that synthetic images will overtake authentic human-captured photographs on the internet. We are about to see a wide-scale AI slop rendition of reality. When the evidentiary is destroyed, so is trust.
