My little sister has spent the year doing the impossible: making an ornery group of seniors and an eager group of emergent bilinguals READ BOOKS. Her mission is to encourage reading (in TX 😩) and we’d be grateful if you would consider donating a book or two. +

For those interested in why Black & Caribbean people are going off about the sugar cane from last night's halftime show: sugar is a plantation commodity that fueled slavery & colonialism

And sugar was a key component of Canada's participation in the Transatlantic Slave Trade (aside from having enslaved Africans here too) - sugar and rum from the Caribbean were traded for trash scraps of codfish from Atlantic provinces, to provide a cheap protein source for enslaved people.

We have standards but we also don't need to bring out the Twitter topics wheel over here. We are new creatures in Christ, let's govern ourselves accordingly.

But move on, we grown now
Finding my way back home now
Life's a trip, I claim whatever baggage that I own now
Done made a few accomplishments, I guess I'm in my zone now
40+ and talking to myself in different tones now

The girls" grandmother (Jamaican) brought them sugar cane to chew on this summer
Anybody out there ever chewed on sugar cane. I'm getting a wave of nostalgia for this rural southern treat.

When he gave the Grammy to that young boy who made everyone think of Liam…even if that wasn’t actually Liam, it was just the perfect way of cutting through all the bullshit.

Every kid impacted by this administration’s cruelty is another Liam.

Absolutely. It's important to me.
Does your kid see you read? I used to watch my mom read so much that I would sit on my kid potty and read my Dr. Suess book upside down, allegedly.

please help a Black nonbinary cancer patient (bex!) with immediate essential needs
as you know, i'm behind on so much & can only pay bills depending on how much i receive in the form of mutual aid

if you click on my ko-fi goal, there's a list of immediate needs that i need to cover & there's also a list of the medical debt that needs to be cleared ASAP.

Knowledge is my control. Control is my compulsion from my obsession of belonging
I can’t tell you how many times I get told “I think I know everything” when hyperknowledge & hyperindependence has literally been key to my survival in life.

‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️ (relatable)
My success (initially) is based on neither sadly. As a former gifted Black child , who is also late diagnosed with autism and adhd…. My success is based off what I had to do for survival
If you're a former gifted kid my question is how much of your success is based on what you were expected to do vs what you wanted to do?

i think this still shapes how i dream/imagine life for myself

i was never able to escape the clutches of poverty, regardless how much i tried/worked/fought. i had a few yrs stretch of a privileged life as an adult, but that was also an abusive relationship so... 🤷🏾‍♀️

still just trying to survive
People isn’t dream big enough for me cause the community around e was just trying to survive. I had to dream and work
