I ain't have no expectations on me. Mama was dealing with addiction and daddy was not around. My mama had pride in my ability which I did appreciate. But I didn't know how to apply it. Never even tried college. Ended up in military but learned a trade.

I was lucky in that my parents never had any particular expectations of me. Others might have, but my mom and dad always encouraged me to do what I was passionate about.

So my idea of success is entirely down to what I want to do, and I'm grateful for that.
If you're a former gifted kid my question is how much of your success is based on what you were expected to do vs what you wanted to do?

I want to be clear I ain't disparaging any "traditional" success stories. I just wanted to ask which path yall took

It's moved a lot more towards the latter recently and I'm thankful. I made a short song about this lol.

Took a lot of work, learning and unlearning.

I don't see myself as wasted potential tho for being a comic. Hell even my day job job pays well over 6 figures. But you can definitely lock yourself into other's defitnion of success

I'm a former gifted kid and I ended up a comedian. I'm sure some would say thats wasted potential for not ending up a doctor or lawyer but that's what his book is about. I want to read it.

The MIT Professor Joshua Bennett book is what I'm gonna read next. Sposed to be about being a prodigy or gifted kid and how you get locked into monetizing that and how other disciplines not seen as genius because they not profitable

I thought my water pik was broken but it's just my outlet in my bathroom. I really wish I knew residential electric as opposed to commercial.

That's a good hypothetical kink question. Who's so fine you would go Switch for assuming you already aren't.

Hmmm. I dunno if I would but I'd give a good think for

Janet.
Danielle Brooks.

I'm trying to think of more but that's just not where I am on the spectrum
