the kwisatz haderach of west-central illinois. anthropologist (derogatory). don't read my posts. they're fake, and i have no opinions.
given the urgency of global warming, it's possible that he may, in the long term, have collapsed civilization
when all is said and done it looks reasonably likely that bin laden will have taken down not just the us but the entire west

I've noticed the opposing team's fans only cheer when the opponents score on us. To win those fans over, I recommend we score on ourselves repeatedly; that will surely make them so happy they'll start supporting us. And I'm sure all our fans will keep cheering for us—who else is there to cheer for?

this isn't a legitimate government, they have no interest in the mechanisms of governing and no belief in the value of governance. you don't need to play at process anymore. you need to build a plan whereby as many of these officials and their funders as possible are eventually behind bars or broke

my takeaway from climate week nyc is that "climate storytelling" is a little too much "we must reimagine our deepest souls in relationship to mother nature and the moral abyss of the polycrisis into which we must now stare" and not enough "ok but get a heat pump"

UChicago always had these irritating little intellectual cults around e.g., Mearsheimer, Sunstein, the Comaroffs, etc. and it's been mildly amusing to watch them all gradually outed as frauds, idiots, and perverts
chotiner’s real gift is very quickly revealing how many powerful and influential people are complete morons. Sunstein is asked about his friendship with Kissinger and it’s pretty clear that he’s never really thought about it.

lmao this was the very first thing that popped into my head as a former Toronto grad student.
NEW: The “fascism experts” ditching Yale for Toronto's Munk School appear blissfully unaware that the academic centre was founded by one of Canada’s most infamous oligarchs, whose company Barrick Gold has been linked to massive human rights violations around the world.
Yale professors ‘flee’ US for Toronto school linked to massive human rights abuses
The idea that the Munk School promotes democracy, liberty, and freedom is laughable. The school was bankrolled by a right-wing oligarch whose fortune was drawn from global plunder, and who actively qu...

The Bush administration disappeared people too, sent them to a different gulag at Gitmo and other black sites, kidnapped people off the street of Milan, tortured them, in the name of "a different kind of war."
We didn't come close to holding them accountable.
We're seeing the cost of that now.

Then the market got too bad so the GOP went behind the scenes and threatened to strip him of tariffing power, so he reversed.

But first he told the billionaires, so they could inside trade.
