Happy #NationalCandyCornDay!

Candy corn reminds me of Halloween, so I re-imagined it as a Halloween cat!

I think this would make a great spooky season puzzle. What do you think?

Important thread for authors about the Anthropic class action and scammers.
Authors, Beware! There's a firm called "ClaimsHero" doing aggressive social media outreach claiming to
"help" you file to get $ in the Anthropic class action. In fact, it's a bait-and-switch, they are luring authors to sign up with them, then OPTING THEM OUT of the class action so they'll get zilch.

Looking at the new macOS Tahoe update. It seems to be all AI (do NOT like or want) and Liquid Glass. (Last phone update has Liquid Glass - horrible for clarity because of the halos, awful to look at, and sometimes migraine inducing - why would anyone want that??? I do NOT like or want it.)

How a flawed idea is teaching millions of kids to be poor readers
For decades, schools have taught children the strategies of struggling readers, using a theory about reading that cognitive scientists have repeatedly debunked. And many teachers and parents don't kno...

This Veterans Day, I’m thinking of the millions of Americans who have served in uniform — and how our government is failing them right now.

Words aren’t enough, we need actions. Fund the VA. Fund mental healthcare. And end endless wars.

Our deductible went up too.

We knew it was going to be bad with the subsidies expiring, but holy hell ...

In response to this claim that the "strategy didn't work."

The people were on our side. We were building momentum to help save our democracy. We could have won - the premium increase notices were just starting.

And giving in now will embolden him. Things will likely get worse.

This is a good point. Time for Dems to make some noise. Call your senators and representatives! Use @5calls.org if you need help with scripts or numbers to call.
American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

This is a bad deal, and the old way of doing things is clearly not working.

We need new leaders in the Senate.

This is why the vote last night sucks so much. It’s a short term fix against cruelty, which allows a larger & longer cruel plan to go into place with healthcare. New ACA costs are unsustainable. Many more people will have to choose between necessary health ins. & other necessities like food & rent.
Because many struggle with math…

Guaranteeing a vote on extending the tax credits is not guaranteeing the tax credits.

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Did Tuesday night even happen?

It doesn't actually matter if Chuck Schumer votes for this or not.

If he can't keep his caucus unified to protect healthcare for over 10 million Americans, he should resign as leader.

2/ Doubling down on cuts to Medicaid that will leave 50,000 Delawareans without health care isn’t compromise — it’s a crisis.

A bill that ignores families paying double for insurance isn’t a solution.

Bullies gain power when their misconduct succeeds in causing righteous people to yield in the face of wrongdoing. That’s why voting for Trump's continuing resolution - without any protection against his health care cuts or his growing illegality - is a mistake.

I voted NO.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

Without arguing the power dynamics happening right now, I really want to just reemphasize this point.

Do not let this get lost tonight/tomorrow in the inevitable media coverage to follow. It is the fault of the GOP.
The Democrats are not at fault for anything going badly in your life right now.

To be clear, this deal still needs to go through a debate and amendment process and more 60-vote thresholds to pass the Senate, and then it must pass the House. There's still room for constituent pressure.
