Friends, it's time. After five years, I'm moving on from covering #MetroCouncilNash.

The July 15 meeting will be the last one I cover. It'll also probably be the last one I watch for some time.

I'll have more to say about this decision later, but for now, I want to thank some folks.

Great interview by @iamstevenhale.bsky.social. Interesting that Drake didn’t reflect on the part of the survey he cited where a minority of residents surveyed believe that police tech would be an effective solution to crime in Nashville.

I just don’t like pretending that state funding is burdenless for Nashville tax payers. We pay state taxes. We also have to pay for future operating and maintenance costs. Reduced burden, maybe.
Let's keep downtown Nashville safe for everyone. Grant funded security improvements help us deliver safety without burdening Nashville taxpayers.

Oh I didn’t realize the official government social media accounts were doing propaganda now. Thought that was reserved for politicians’ accounts. Cool cool cool.

In my experience, I have seen many people be turned away from riding the bus for not having $$ for fair or full fair. Today I saw a conventionally attractive upper middle class white woman be told “don’t worry about it” when her tap to pay didn’t work. Would love to see that policy for all riders.

Seeing Zohran instantly getting a bunch of shit done in like a week makes you realize that politicians could always do that on some level if they wanted it bad enough and very few of them actually do.

Let’s talk about abolishing ICE.

Very few people who say “abolish ICE” mean “abandon all immigration enforcement.” Rather, they mean “the structure of immigration enforcement is irretrievably broken and needs to be reorganized, just like we did 23 years ago when we created ICE.”

The two acceptable mayoral archetypes are as follows:
1. Zohran
2. Polish mayor who lets a cat move in to city hall

Every single CM who has a sidewalk/traffic calming/bikeway project that is behind schedule should be asking how much time and money were spent on taking away seating, lying about concrete balls as seating and public art, and redesigning concrete balls as fake seating.
New kind of big concrete ball dropped. Looks suspiciously like a chair 🤔

semi-regular reminder that ICE was only created in 2003

when you are asked to imagine a world without ICE, you're basically being asked to remember where you were when Lilo & Stitch came out

So ICE can murder an American protestor with zero consequences, but if another country does the same to their protestors, we…bomb them?

In one week, Mayor Mamdani:

- ordered safe street completion
- fixed bike ramp hazard
- began inquiry into unfair rent practices
- appealed court decision vs bike lanes
- expanded free universal childcare
- gave out free theater tickets

only one required state coordination. don’t accept excuses.
New York City is the cultural capital of the world and art shouldn’t be a luxury only some of us can afford. I’m grateful for Under the Radar Theater Festival’s generosity and partnership towards that vision as they announce 1,500 free tickets for New Yorkers.

I told Elizabeth about this, and she said, “I’m sorry, you have to FLAG DOWN THE BUS? When you are literally sitting AT a bus STOP? ‘STOP’ being the operative word. Is this a fucking taxi service??”
This happened to me a few times. If you're sitting down on the bench or not actively flagging down the bus sometimes they pass you by.

I think this is something that WeGo should work to eliminate from their culture.

For now I usually give the bus a lil wave as it is arriving.

Everyone who cares about this should remind WeGo in its monthly public comment section.

Meetings are generally at a place in metro center. Free parking, close to greenway, 300’ off a No. 9 stop.

LMFAO so they’re saying that ridership will TRIPLE (from roughly $8M in revenue from fares to $24M) if we go fare-free? This is INSANE. There is NO data suggesting this is REMOTELY likely. Most places that go fare-free see like 20-40% increase iirc. We’re just making shit up!
Incidentally, this data is the same data used by folks arguing against fare freezes. This unique increase in used to argue ridership would be too high is we did a fare pause (even though I’d argue special free fares are fundamentally different from, say, Tuesdays at 7 am).

Bus driver just tried to leave me at the bus stop. Like literally was just driving away as I’m sitting there. He was looking at me in the eyes, driving past the stop. I had to run halfway down the sidewalk to catch him where he ended up stopping, not at the bus stop. What the actual fuck???
