I have thoughts, and they aren’t going to fit neatly into Bluesky posts. Briefly:

1. The deal sucks.
2. Probably not as much as you think it does.
3. It’s good to be mad.
4. FFS, be madder at the GOP.
5. Strategy is hard.
5b. Timing matters.
6. The fight isn’t over.
7. Go pet a cat. (Or a dog.)

yeah there is a 95% chance that each of us Finds Out via shitpost.

which is why the natsec crew can either be upset about sports or cryptic but are not allowed both at the same time
Idk tbh I feel like if WW3 was popping off for real I would see natsec Bluesky post about it with like the “Not great Bob!” gif

Now that I'm no longer building the app at all ‒ not managing, not creating releases, not writing features ‒ I can finally ask something that's been bugging me for a while. What's javascript

My prediction is that in that scenario, he blames the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which puts out employment data. Calls them corrupt, run by Democrats, out to get him. Fires people there, insists their numbers cannot be trusted, White House puts out its own fictitious data to make Trump look good

If you enjoy the SCP universe at all, or just good scifi, I highly recommend qntm's book. This was one of my favorite reads in a while.

And we have advance copies of the UK edition!

The cover has a cool gloss/redacted effect which was tricky to photograph, hope I've captured it

(Note, the actual retail cover is different, see next post)

There is one political party lining up to oppose Mamdani for blatantly bigoted reasons, and people of good conscience should vote against it at the local, state, and federal level
Really frustrating to see people insist that "the Democratic Party is against Zohran" when every local Dem who endorsed Cuomo is lining up behind him
Thank you Rep. Espaillat for joining this campaign for an affordable NYC and for fighting Trump's authoritarianism in DC.

Adriano and I know that the only way we can protect this city is by standing firm in our values and standing up for working class and immigrant New Yorkers.

Curiously, my very deliberate, ponderous method of speaking truth to power seems to have left me speaking truth to the previous set of people in power, which just so happens to align me with the current set of people in power. What an odd confluence of events!

Unfortunately there are no current issues that demand courageous honesty that challenges our leaders. But if there were, you can trust I’ll be there, speaking truth to power (in two to five years).

Hey, I’m a prominent national news figure and I’m here to promote my new book, in which I tell you I’m boldly taking a contrarian point of view on an important news issue (of 2022) and standing up to powerful men (who have already retired). If only liberals would have courage like me!

I'm her constituent and after seeing the results in South Carolina, I voted for Biden because I cared far more about party unity than any particular candidate
including warren here in particular is bizarre, because, *as a warren supporter who donated money to her campaign* it was obvious to me extremely early on that she had absolutely no chance
The common myth that Jake Tapper repeats about 2020 -- that Democratic voters didn't want Joe Biden but he was forced on them by a back-room party conspiracy -- is transparently wrong and fundamentally misunderstands the problem: www.lawyersgunsmoneyblog.com/2025/05/joe-...

By this standard, the new york times has tortured trans teenagers
The killings of two Israeli Embassy workers in Washington on Wednesday cast a harsh spotlight on the pro-Palestinian movement in the U.S. and the impact even peaceful protests might be having on attitudes against people connected to Israel.

Three things made the US a rich and powerful nation: the rule of law, its science & innovation system, and openness to foreign talent. Remarkable how Trump has taken a sledgehammer to all three. No enemy of this country could do more.

you'd think that "the man we are giving complete and total power to on every other subject cannot be trusted not to immediately cause a depression if we give him this power over this one last thing" might prompt some introspection, but no
This bespoke exception for the Fed is one of the most brazenly made-up things I've ever seen the Supreme Court do (which is saying something). There is no principled basis to distinguish the Fed from other independent agencies. The conservative justices just don't want Trump to crash the market!
The Supreme Court goes out of its way to say that its order today does NOT allow Trump to remove members of the Federal Reserve because it is "uniquely structured" and has a "distinct history tradition." (I do not think those distinctions hold water.) www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...
