Recommendations for a couple of exceptional books I've read recently. For novels, Qntm's There Is No Antimemetics Division is a stone cold cosmic horror classic about a department trying to combat anomalous beings whose very nature makes them

It's difficult to do explain but the first three Wallace & Gromit films are Christmas films. So are Back To The Future and Some Like It Hot

inbox is where things come to hurt you.
outbox is where you put things to hurt others.
"hitbox" vs "hurtbox" is so ambiguous in my head, is it established which is which?

hitbox is either the box that can hit others, or it's box that gets hit

hurtbox is either the box that can hurt others, or it's the box where you get hurt

are there better names for these?

There Is No Antimemetics Division, QNTM (Ballantine 978-0593983751, hardcover, 288pp, $29.00) November 2025. First, almost unavoidably, a word on this penname. “QNTM” is the online—and print—monike…

My proposal is to add an infix tetration operator `***` to JavaScript. For example, `3 *** 3` would evaluate to `7625597484987`; this would be one of about five possible meaningful results the operator was capable of producing (maybe ten if we allow BigInts)

Reading on a bus, and a man who’d clearly been reading over my shoulder for at least a couple of pages asked as I was getting off what it was, which is a fun way to recommend a book to someone anyway but it did feel particularly appropriate that it was @qntm.org’s “There Is No Antimemetics Division”

Let's get the Twelve Days of Christmas discourse sorted quickly

1. You are too early, the twelfth day of Christmas is 5th January
2. No, the song is not secretly all about birds, it just sucks

Your planetary winding number is the number of times you have circled the North Pole in total since being born. It's tracked by longitude. It can be fractional. For most people the number is 0 or close to it. If you fly east from the US to Europe to Japan and then back to the US, that adds 1
