Look if you let Cal into your conference then you have to deal with the chaos we’re gonna cause, no cowardly backing out of it now
This might be an unpopular take ... but if I'm the ACC and Cal upsets SMU, I override the tiebreakers and put Miami in the ACC championship game against Virginia.

Until last week, I would have said Cal was an absolute lock to spoil this by laying an egg against SMU.

Now? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Cal might *still* lay an egg, but also might actually do a thing.
Six way ACC tie needs today:
Miami over Pitt
Va Tech over Virginia
Duke over Wake
Cal over SMU

if anyone needs me, I’ll be quietly crumbling to dust in the other room
We are now further away from the theatrical release of Raiders of the Lost Ark (June 12, 1981) than it was from the year it takes place in (1936). We have reached the Indiana Jones event horizon.

Since apparently it’s Share Your (probably) Terrible Pie Opinions Day:
- Apple pie isn’t bad, it’s just boring
- Pumpkin pie is better chilled
- All fruit pies are good for breakfast
- Tau (circumference/radius) would be more useful than pi

When we post opinions, we usually give reasons. Why some disparaged musician is actually a genius or why some redditor is in fact the asshole. With food, you can’t give reasons that would persuade anybody. No one expects that. We yell about food for the pure love of yelling. And that’s beautiful.
my take on Food Discourse is that it's always ridiculous but it's also nice to be fighting about dumb internet shit again instead of dealing with Oppressive Despair all the time so please keep posting your bad takes

Granted, there hasn't been a point to having Justin Wilcox as a head coach since he lost to 1-11 Colorado in 2022 except for being poor and unambitious

…I mean, I would absolutely play a Windows-themed pinball game where this is what you see if you tilt the machine
last night at a bar I learned that they improved pinball by making machines that are entirely computers and they’re much better than what we had before

Me, except I do it with *my own documents*, because I’m still trying to break the habit.

(In my defense, I use Word a LOT less now than I did when I learned the habit.)
When I review a Word document, sometimes I get rid of all the double spaces after periods in one fell swoop by doing a find and replace and typing two spaces into the find box and typing one space into the replace box
What's your most niche and unimportant crusade?

Mine is that I use the symbol "var" (as scientific standards bodies indicate) for reactive power instead of "VAR" (most common) or something weird like "Var" or worse, "VAr".

I'll admit it does feel a bit odd to put "Mvar" next to "MW" and "MVA". 🔌💡

A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.
