New year, new #Medium piece! This one is about the opening of my favourite #Ghibli film, peering into strangers’ windows at night, and speculating about strangers as the basis of #storytelling

In this Year of Reading, a gentle reminder:
The best way to get your kids reading is to let them see *you* reading. The way to *stop* your kids reading is to criticize their choices, or to make reading a competition, or a punishment, or a race, or a learning tool. Let it be fun. Let them read.

It’s a little disheartening to enquire specifically, “Are trans people welcome in this space?” and get, “We don’t have a policy, but EVERYONE is welcome!” Feels a little “all lives matter.”

If you don’t have a policy of inclusion, people can and will point to that as a justification to exclude.

I think The Express needs to find their Xmas spirit.

We're paying £476m for a regime that tear gasses babies & destroys shelters in freezing conditions.

We should divert that money to a functioning and fair migration system.

Tune in to @boldpolitics.bsky.social at 3pm tomorrow.

Well, the cost to fix my plumbing is going to be in the five figures, so....buy some books! I have paperbacks on Bookshop.org and on Amz - they probably won't get to you in time for the holidays, but you can gift ebooks instantly! If I sell about...8000 copies...I should be covered...
Got a plumber coming this afternoon because Something Has Gone Terribly Wrong, so it's a great day to buy my books! 😅

The human cost of AI: the real people, hired as "data labellers" and other euphemisms (after signing non-disclosure agreements) paid a pittance, and enduring immense harm in the process.

A devastating anatomy of how tech companies exploit, dehumanize, and ultimately replace human beings.

Most profound writing I read in 2026 was "The Emotional Labor Behind AI Intimacy" by a Nairobi man who dreamed of working in air traffic control but instead winds up sexting & chatting w ppl who think they're talking to AI (while AI trains on him). 16 pages & free - READ IT data-workers.org/michael/

Creative solidarity means:

If you're a writer, do not use AI "art" or AI "voiceover"
If you're an artist, do not use AI "writing" or AI "references"
If you're a streamer/actor, do not use AI for backdrops, thumbnails, etc.

Never help AI steal another medium

No excuses, no shortcuts, no surrender.

I had the privilege of contributing a poem to @rtie.org's Supreme Injustice zine. I wrote a sonnet inspired by the indelible beauty of my transfeminine sisters/siblings, because god, do they deserve a love poem.

I can’t resist an excuse to read trans books, so with zero plan I’m joining in with #DecemberTransReadathon 🏳️‍⚧️

(I made my own graphic as I prefer portrait, link in the replies if anyone else would like to use it.)

Zack is right and on the right message. 6th richest country in the world and libraries still closing down, potholed roads and all that. The physical decline of the country is marked. The money is *somewhere*. We face a coordination/hoarding problem not a lack of total wealth problem.
Do Labour MPs think they're gonna get away with doubling down?

Everyone is struggling. Meanwhile the super rich get richer.

No wonder they're spiralling. The alternative is here.

The OBR downgraded productivity by £16billion. It's not, 'made up' Zack. Have another read.

New taxes on remote gambling, dividends, a mansion tax on homes worth more than £2million.

450,000 children lifted out of poverty. £150 off energy bills next year.

Progressive choices. That's who we are.

With the sheer number of people engaging with AI, we can’t necessarily infer a causation here. That said, this is all really alarming. The “reduction” of poor responses they’re framing as a boast, but can’t prove the efficacy of, is just not good enough- and that’s them trying to make it sound good.
