Seattle. Every intersection is a crosswalk.

Two things for @mayorofseattle.bsky.social and @alexis4seattle.bsky.social:

1. We need to know how and why this happened tomorrow, and have a proposed solution to prevent it.

2. We need to immediately spin up a Vision Zero Response Team with more funding than the 2026 graffiti abatement budget.
Seattle needs immediate rapid response to vision zero. When someone is killed or seriously injured in a traffic collision, a rapid semi-permanent remediation must be installed/deployed at the site to make sure it never happens again. Paint and signal re-timing is not sufficient.

We don't need to "promote" road safety, we need to *engineer* it! Our road should be designed and built to be safe, even if that means driving takes longer or parking is harder to find.
Wilson highlighted the recent death of a pedestrian in Capitol Hill. She said the City needs to get its Vision Zero campaign to end traffic deaths on course and do more to promote road safety.

Vision Zero will only ever amount to an empty PR campaign until @seattledot.bsky.social is brave enough to deprioritizes cars
@seattledot.bsky.social are you paying attention to the constant stream of feedback you have received about Pike & Melrose?

A person walking was killed a block away at Pine & Bellevue last night, which is fully signalized.

It’s a miracle it hasn’t happen at Pike & Melrose yet. What’s your plan?
I stopped posting about the vast majority of my too close for comfort calls. But I was almost left hooked Sunday pm while bicycling up Pike where the bike lane switches from two way, to one way on each side, at Melrose. I had the signal. The only reason I didn’t get hit is b/c I am hypervigilant.

We had a great time tonight talking to @seattledot.bsky.social about Bus Lanes on Denny Way!

The Mayor’s order mandates a plan by April 17. We’re excited that SDOT is thinking about more than Denny and will keep iterating on solutions in the coming years

Do nimbys know what nimbyism is?

“Three Tree Point resident Dawn Lemmel told the Council Monday night. ‘In September, you assured us our voices had been heard and acknowledged we are not NIMBYs, but in fact, staunch advocates and defenders of our city’s fragile resources and ecosystem.’”

FYI, I left a message for Schumer. Please call the Senate Switchboard and demand, at a minimum:

1. The complete dismantling of ICE.
2. The prosecution of everyone involved with these murders and civil rights violations, including Noem.
2. A full stop on confirming Trump nominees and justices.
Chuck, maybe you could call your Senator about it? The Senate switchboard can be reached at (202) 224-3121. If the Senior Senator from New York and Senate Minority Leader isn't in, leave a recorded message.
ICE out of Minnesota NOW.

Arguments against stronger, more permanent car free places that pit emergency vehicle access as a reason not to build it are empty considering how often emergency vehicles respond to traffic violence against pedestrians.

If we want to create a more affordable, livable Seattle, we need to design for *reducing* car volumes. This is the only way to meet our climate, public health, vision zero, accessibility and housing goals. Our fight to design highway on-ramps with LESS capacity epitomizes why it's still hard.

I can think of about four other instances of drivers smashing cars into buildings in my neighborhood in just the past few years. I’m sure I’m missing a few.

The Reef
Dino’s
Coastal Kitchen
Uncle Ike’s
Yikes. Heres the video (and the source, Honeyhole’s TikTok): www.tiktok.com/t/ZTrb52o8s/

Worth noting that this street has a “protected” bike lane, though these stores are close to the corner/intersection.

We need to do something about violent drivers in our cities.
