The House just approved this bill on a 53-44 vote!
Today's the last chance for @staterepjuliareed.bsky.social's presumed liability bill, shifting some of the legal burden after an injury crash involving someone who was walking or biking onto the driver. Currently bridges have more stringent legal protections.

The $115M of social housing tax revenue will be able to create more housing if you sign in PRO on HB 1687 before 10:30AM Wed. 300 conservatives have signed in against it 😱

Seems bad.
I received a report today from a community member who spotted approximately 24 new unmarked SUVs. outside the ICE facility in Tukwila, WA, just south of Seattle.
It’s hard to say for certain what this means, but it could indicate a greater deployment of personnel in the region in the near future.

Traffic safety is frequently identified as the top public safety concern, and yet it has not been given the necessary attention and policy action to make meaningful change. We can't continue to be shocked and appalled by these incidents—we need to act.

You simply can't pretend to support immigrants who are under constant threat from ICE and simultaneously support throwing immigrants in jail for selling juice or tacos on the street.

This is in Snohomish County, but King County (Seattle) is also obsessed with this.

It's almost as if living in a hyper-individualized authoritarian state that is actively dismantling the social safety net and building a network of concentration camps makes people miserable.

I have heard some nattering along the lines of "but warehouses are often in places that don't make sense for housing or community centers or etc.!"

It is NOT about warehouses. It's about *will* and *real estate*
Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

Exactly. If there was money in the budget to pay for high power firearms for the local police department, there *could* have been money to pay for band instruments for the local schools. We can make better decisions about how tax dollars get spent.

Yeah RFK is murdering kids for fun and we should talk about that more. Vaccines are good, actually, and epidemic measles is bad! He’s shutting down cancer cures. He’s encouraging the Jordan Peterson meat diet. He’s running Mengele experiments.
The RFK number seems like a massive failure of the media to explain what RFK is doing to our public health system and how catastrophic it will be

The thing about my city is that we had to schedule our No Kings protest late in the day because the garden club had a tour that day and the same people were organizing both. We had ~3,000 people protesting in a town of 13,000.
This is so spot on

Before apps many, many restaurants offered “free” delivery by having dedicated delivery staff or similar set up and pricing it in. Maybe extractive tech is the problem.
Grim news out of Seattle: we passed an ordinance raising the pay of delivery drivers, but the result has been fewer delivery orders, leaving many of them worse off.

It may just be that "instant delivery of your food" is not a practical business & only exploitation can make it "work."
Seattle's gig worker law was supposed to boost pay. It did at first, until orders dropped
It’s been two years since Seattle’s gig worker minimum wage took effect. It was intended to boost labor standards for app-based drivers who deliver food for companies like DoorDash or Uber Eats. How h...

going to try and switch to bike + light rail commute when it opens next month. might have to wait a month or so for the novelty to wear off for it to be feasible though

If I’m going to be honest, I find the way a lot of liberals talk about fare free busses to be vapid, unimaginative, ignorant and dismissive.

Imagine talking about schools or libraries or firefighters or bike lanes or parks or street lights the same way.

“pretty social justice vibes” lmao
Sorry, but this @nytimes.com op-ed on free fares in New York City, by @galvinalmanza.bsky.social, is deeply ignorant of the issues.

It proposes that pretty social justice vibes and some careless citations will change facts of math. Thread: 1/

I don’t understand why people whine about wealthy people leaving if taxes are too high.

If people do not want to contribute to society, they are welcome to see themselves out. It’s not like they contribute now 🤷
