Really important to stress that 36 Months accused academics and experts critical of the ban of being 'paid' by big tech. When asked for evidence of this, the MD said "I haven't looked into it."

Meanwhile 36 Months itself was directly funded by a business helping promote the gambling industry.
Scoop: the pro-teen social media ban lobby group 36 Months was funded & co-staffed by its co-founder's ad production firm that was simultaneously making gambling ads

The federal government has ignored calls for a gambling ad ban while pursuing the social media ban.

I'm putting on another Brisbane LGBT+ and Allies in Tech pub meet: Thursday 13 Nov at The Plough.
It's a fun, casual event for drinks, finger food, networking, and good chats with fellow folks in (or interested in) tech. See you there?

Great piece on Jimbocho that captures its old-fashioned appeal: www.japantimes.co.jp/life/2025/10...
What does Jimbocho think of its unexpected ‘cool’ status?
The book town's residents weigh in on their home topping Time Out magazine's “coolest neighborhoods” list.

The text of AI is "I'm stealing shit" the subtext is "we are incredibly hindered as a species by IP laws"
Imagine instead of doing this AI garbage, we actually did the thing it's subtextually doing and working out IP schemes where we didn't jealously hoarde all our systems and art and every person making an open world game didn't have to implement ladders from scratch.

This remains one of the greatest examples of French contemporary culture.
In 2004, Parisian police were conducting a training exercise in the french catacombs and found, after moving past a desk and a tape playing audio of snarling dogs, a fully functional movie theater and bar. When they returned 3 days later, the equipment was gone, with a note: “Do not try to find us.”

Well, if it’s 23 September... YES, THAT’S RIGHT! It’s the 71st anniversary of the hunt for the Gorbals Vampire, in which hundreds of children aged from four to 14, armed with dogs, knives and sharpened sticks went looking for an urban myth

if you want to understand tailoring, you only need to watch mid-century movies, when actors were dressed by tailors, not brands. in the 1944 film cover girl, gene kelly's suit drapes beautifully, moving with him, not against him. collar stays on his neck, even as he dances.

I love this analytical take on video game categorization from Antoine Mayerowitz and Julie Belzanne:

hushcrasher.substack.com/p/taxonomy-o...

Instead of trying to vibe-intuit the definition of an "indie" game, the authors analyzed the data from the perspective of game size and credits length
