In “Politics and the English Language” George Orwell writes a scathing critique of the way that writers use vapid phrases to hit large word counts while saying nothing at all. Today we’ve learned that Orwell was a time traveler because he was definitely talking about Olivia Nuzzi’s American Canto.

AIPAC sucks, supports genocide, and is a hub for Christian Zionists as much as anyone. *And* at the same time:

When you vaguepost like this about issues unrelated to Israel suggesting an org associated with Judaism is to blame, you are at least FLIRTING with antisemitic conspiracy theory.

Omg I’m dying 😂😂😂…so…So Emily Austin, a right wing 'influencer' who works for Bibi and the GOP, launched 'Hot Girls for Cuomo'.

Guess who didn't bother to register the URL when she did that? What do you think Hot Girls for Cuomo dot com leads to now?... 😄 Enjoy.

Ok, but I know someone who has this, and the flowers are frogs. They are little pink frogs. LEGO used the frog mold that they already had and made pink ones and those are the flowers. The flowers are frogs.
Growing and maintaining a bonsai tree is not easy. It takes patience. Dexterity. Botanical knowledge. Most people don't have these skills, so tonight's Low Quality Ad is for the LEGO Botanicals Bonsai Tree Building Set. This is much easier to not kill than a real tree.

I have never posted about #over/under before because I feel like anything that I could say would be a spoiler. But, I announced a fund today for new public works, and everyone wants to eliminate taxes and build a train.

Someone who is good at the economy please help me, my space station is dying.

Schumer’s seat is Lander’s for the taking, if Lander wants it.
Schumer is absolutely risking his career here. He's extremely vulnerable to a progressive primary challenge in 2028 because he's seen as being unwilling to confront Trump, and refusing to support the future NYC mayor who is being attacked by Trump plays right into that narrative.

A lot of the discourse is really how do Dems win in November 2028. That's an issue where the answers will be clearer in June 2028. Also participating in policy/activism/organizing/defending one another has never before and should not now depend on you analyzing how every action affects elections.
My view 1. it is critical to focus on the fascism and doing whatever we can to protect people from it NOW; everything is not electoral 2. Dems winning the House in 2026 is useful but may do little to stop the fascism 3. Dems are favored in 26 because out-party wins midterms and Trump is unpopular.
It might be worth engaging a more charitable reading of his comment. I (and others on here) have criticized the Third Way/Dems must throw people under the bus strategy. I/others have also criticized the "this is a stunt, let's talk about the economy" strategy. So what are we for?

Italy literally has a fascist government right now, and Trump’s actions are still too far for them.
Highly skeptical of all "in running for Nobel Peace Prize" discussion.

But if anything should, miraculously, come of today's emergency intervention, there's an eight-person slate that would be strong contention for the award. Here they are together.

This story should not have been published. They hint at an accusation (Mamdani said he is black to get into a fancy college) they can't back up. That this was published tells me that Mamdani's most important opponent may not be Cuomo or Adams but a paper whose NEWS section will run stuff like this.
You know, when I heard that all of our personal data had been hacked, I didn't expect the first major use of it to be the NYT trying to fuck over Zohran but maybe I'm naive www.nytimes.com/2025/07/03/n...
