Dear Maria, I am one of your constituents (Postcode: ). In the interests of transparency, in my professional life, I am an academic at the University of Liverpool with research interests in Active Travel. However, I am writing to you as a resident. The reason that I am writing is that I have had 3 incidents in the last 24 hours whilst riding my bike to and from work which have been really upsetting. All happened in broad daylight, and all involved drivers nearly crashing into me as if I wasn’t there. It is the last of these incidents, which happened just now which is most upsetting. The driver ‘close passed’ me against a line of parked cars. This gave me three options: 1) Ride into the back of a parked car. 2) Get run over by his car. 3) Stop entirely. The advantage gained by the driver was such that we were both stopped at the next set of traffic lights. At that point he told me to “get off the ****ing road”. This led me to believe that the driver intended to drive like that. As much as I ride a bike to work, I am a normal person. I have two young children. I go to work every day, work hard, and pay my taxes. I am sure that if I met this person in any other walk of life, we might have a perfectly decent interaction. However, the culture on our roads has become so bad that we forget these things. I recognise some of the good things that are happening, both at a Government level, and in Liverpool via the City Council and CA. However, the thing that is missing is the culture shift. Things like the recent changes to the Highway Code are welcome, but they are not filtering through to attitudes on the road. Please could I implore you to raise issues like mine with the Department for Transport? Things like the “Think!” campaign have raised awareness of so many other issues. I do not want to be an obituary in the Echo. Worse yet, I don’t want to be just another Killed and Serious Injured statistic. I’m sorry I have to write in such a sad way – I love riding …

We have been tracking people’s experiences with gendered spaces and our new report looks at the impact of the 2025 EHRC interim update on access to, and experiences within, gendered spaces in the UK.

To be really clear, Sussex ICB threatened, in writing, to close a Brighton GP practice serving 25,000 patients, purely to bully them into passing over child records. The GP did not want to pass on these records, because they understood the acute risk (& reality) of harm to trans adolescents.

My son is on blockers legally from before the ban and we did everything they told us to do and now we are being threatened with social services if we don't allow them to "safely withdraw" medication. They admit that the impact will be "stark" for our kids but they are going to do it anyway.

I’ve seen on the media how pundits amusingly refer to Zack Polanski as if entirely propped up by social media & youngsters’ ‘vibes’ but to this middle aged women (who has no TikTok account) he seems the most serious political leader in sight talking about real issues with conviction and directness 🤷🏻‍♀️

Exactly. They are pattern matchers on a grand scale. Pretty good(*) for pattern matchers, to be fair, but you have to know that that's the kind of "information" they are retrieving.

(*) Apart from the energy consumption. Not good.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

I'm so sick of discourse from supposed allies about where trans people went wrong.

Where we "went wrong" is that billionaires spent unimaginably large sums to attack us repeatedly and major media outlets have spent a decade piling on.
