I believe the time is right for this song to re-enter our collective playlist. Apart from its political point, it's an excellent song.

A fun thing to do is look at Amazon’s price history tool.

Prices remain steady on most things over the last 30 days. Toggle it to 90 and almost everything spiked 30%

“Inventing the Renaissance” is having another $3.99 ebook sale. I think this one is Uk/Canada/AU/NZ too! If bit, that sale is coming in a couple days.
“Inventing the Renaissance” is a history of histories of this (not so) golden age. Much of making history is simply adding new POVs to the braid as historians ask new & more diverse questions w/ each generation. I hope you’ll enjoy my effort to show the process at work! 25/25 https://buff.ly/4j6qkoS

Beautiful clear night in Maine but no aurora--not even a glow--looking to the north. With some south Bz this could change, but so far the night is quiet at mid-latitudes.

There's a Frederick Wiseman season upcoming at the ICA which means I get to repeat my story of doing a double bill at the LFF of DOMESTIC VIOLENCE and DOMESTIC VIOLENCE II. Me and maybe twenty social workers who sat through six hours of misery, despair and people perjuring themselves

Frederick Wiseman, a director whose rigorously objective explorations of social and cultural institutions constitute one of the more revered bodies of work in American documentary filmmaking, died on Monday. He was 96. nyti.ms/4qGpq55

He exposed abuses in films like “Titicut Follies,” a once-banned portrait of a mental hospital, but ranged widely in subject matter, from a Queens neighborhood to a French restaurant.

So when thousands of women (and children) were being duplicated--including in non-consensual AI porn--it was no big deal. But it took "only a 15-sec clip" of these two famous white men to draw outrage and fear. Gotcha. Cool cool.
It took only a 15-second clip of Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt duking it out on a crumbling rooftop — made by A.I. with a two-sentence prompt and the click of a button — to draw swift outrage, and sizable fear, from Hollywood.

"It’s nothing short of terrifying," one scriptwriter said.
Why an A.I. Video of Tom Cruise Battling Brad Pitt Spooked Hollywood
A 15-second clip created by an artificial intelligence tool owned by the Chinese technology company ByteDance appears more cinematic than anything so far.

I’m an elder millennial / young GenX but my personal and anecdotal experience in science runs a bit counter to this.

People who are already have deep expertise and are doing complex writing and intellectual work are the ones who are most able to see AI downsides. People very new to the field
Interesting survey on attitudes toward AI among academics. One thing that struck me: millennials (vs Gen X and boomers) and early-career researchers are *more* likely to distrust AI. fdslive.oup.com/www.oup.com/...
