Might I suggest that the fact that folks are continually surprised when their friends or family get detained by ICE despite this pretty clearly being administration policy is indicative of both a failure to curate information diets, but also a media failure?
People still just don't get it.

"Richard said his wife’s apprehension makes no sense because she was not a flight risk wearing an ankle monitor, has ties to the community and has continued her appeal for asylum status."
Alpharetta newlyweds separated after ICE detains wife
Married for three months, Richard Randin watched in disbelief as ICE agents showed up at his home and handcuffed his wife. She entered the U.S. last year as an asylum

I wrote 'Provocations (after Saul Williams)' in a dissociative/anxious fugue state as a responsive poem to a set of questions @saulwilliams.bsky.social put in a thread here late last year. Check it: open.substack.com/pub/shairacn...

This is the second time that the Refaat Alareer camp had to relocate. The first time was in August 2024 when Noor got shot in her leg by a Quadcopter. Our hearts are broken for these families even though compared to most they’re lucky, they have means of transport and a place to go.

‼️‼️ Last night the entirety of the Refaat Alareer camp had to be relocated due to bombing. This is a special encampment that the Sameer Project has built to care for critically injured people because most of the hospitals are destroyed. Help them rebuild:

Their South Gaza campaign, where they are distributing food for survival as the price of rice skyrockets, only has funds left for ONE MORE WEEK.

Love this!!!

A way to report incidents of shadowbanning/ censorship on tech platforms relating to medical information on abortion.

So that a case can be built against these companies for putting women’s lives and health in danger.
So we partnered with Repro Uncensored + @eff.org to launch the Report an Incident tool to document and fight back against this suppression.

If your organization or community has faced censorship, please submit your experience at: www.reprouncensored.org/report-incident

Pretty sure democracy dies when billionaires can just buy major newspapers and then reshape them into right wing propaganda machines

most journalists today can be divided into two groups: dedicated, impoverished people who mostly write for publications you've never heard of that started eighteen months ago or JP Random House The First, who writes columns for the New York Times about which ethnic groups it should be OK to hunt
an important thing about america's current media elites is that they're basically just the dregs of an industry that has been constant contraction since the 90s and thus a lot of them are nepobabies who don't actually want to do any work
Checked this story about Trump shaking Ukraine down in exchange for continuing military aid to see if it mentions that he got impeached for doing that exact thing, and friends, you will not be surprised that it does not.

There are so many truly amazing, fearless independent outlets and journalists who are willing to be bold and tell the truth about what is happening.

If you're able, support them instead.

I have been thinking about the US as a fourth world country - deemed a 1st world country but has 3rd world substandard conditions. A place with ongoing genocides foundational to its very existence, denies people access to basic needs & exploits marginalized people for their labor.
