The only thing that removing phone access (And blocking children from social media) would have changed would have been making Brianna (And other trans children) feel more isolated by taking away a method of connection they valued (And, indeed, that Brianna used to help other trans kids).
Brianna Ghey was not murdered in cold blood by a phone. Or a social media app. She was murdered in cold blood with knives plunged into her 28 times by two 15-year-olds fed a constant stream of hate and dehumanization by UK corporate media and the UK government.
Two teenagers were radicalized by the transphobic political climate into seeing a 15 year old girl as less than human. They killed the girl, and then the girl's grieving mother chose to embark on a moral panic crusade against "self-harm", acquitting the actual perpetrators of her daughter's demise.

I have been trying to avoid this conclusion, as angry as this all makes me, but it's fucking undeniable at this point that in Esther Ghey's view the real tragedy of Brianna's life is that she was trans at all, which made her a target. Her advocacy smacks of railing against "social contagion".
