Cultural acceptance of #DerelictIreland #VacantIreland is gone

'Use It or Lose It' is now the mantra

Plus we got 2 new taxes
💰 Vacant Home Tax
🪙 Derelict Property Tax

🤞 in the next 4 yrs will get more holistic policy solutions👇
Last week me & @judesherry.bsky.social told national politicians @oireachtasnews.bsky.social if we continue on our current trajectory it will take 30 years to end #DerelictIreland

Our recommendations included compulsory sales & rental & custodian squatting

How about speeding things up by chatting to CSO Ireland to get locations for 72,000 (yep!) vacant dwellings announced in September & apply use it or lose it

They should also chat with Revenue to understand why only 2300 properties paid the Vacant Homes Tax

It's great to see refurbishments underway at the former Tourism Office in Limerick City. Designed by local architects Murray O'Laoire Architects, the building won the RIAI Gold Medal in 1989–1991.👏🥇

There are dozens of "ghost estates" around Ireland that's just in need of refurbishment. Why can't anything be done to make them all habitable and let people move in?
Nothing has changed since this was reported 👇

75 'ghost estates' still in place across Ireland
A total of 75 so-called "ghost estates" still exist across Ireland more than 15 years after the Celtic Tiger economic and property crash.

Revenue collecting new derelict tax is step forward
Its something @judesherry.bsky.social & I made case for to 2021 @oireachtasnews.bsky.social
But it needs to happen straight away, no more excuses or delays, start with existing derelict sites register & build from there

They offer public luxury in a time when public squalor dominates the landscape, e.g. #DerelictIreland

Dublin’s new tallest building: This tower of darkness should never have been allowed
College Square was redesigned to give its residential block more impact. Why did An Bord Pleanála make such a misguided decision?

That €150 BILLION EURO that @simonharrisireland.bsky.social and @micheal-martin.bsky.social want to spend on military would buy 300,000 houses at €500,000.

I wonder what armaments companies they are talking to already?

These are owned by UCC & featured in our 'This is Derelict Ireland' report
Intially bought by DairyGold who got a 13.3% return on their investment (aka speculation)
UCC bought this site in 2019 for €17.25m & now don't have money to do anything but won't sell them either

Whatever your view on judicial review and NIMBY-ism, this is an appalling attack on the rule-of-law —

If a person successfully (successfully!) proves wrongdoing by the state, the state will bankrupt them?

Cui bono? Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael conies and the worst days of An Bord Pleanála corruption.
Objectors will be on the hook to pay six-figure legal costs under judicial reviews clampdown
Objectors will have to foot six-figure legal bills for successful judicial review cases in a new move being brought to the Cabinet to speed up the supply of infrastructure and housing.
