I feel like there's an opportunity here for an adorable new incident featuring a pink fairy armadillo (possibly with a jaguar shifter) @gailcarriger.bsky.social book a la the delightful Hedgehog Incident
The pink fairy armadillo (Chlamyphorus truncatus) is just this little guy.

The smallest of the armadillo family, they live in the deserts of Argentina, burrowing through dry sand with giant paws, almost as fast as a fish can swim.

The armor is greatly reduced, but the pink fairy has THICK FUR.

This is your regular reminder that rationality is an emotion. It is not the opposite of emotion. It is the feeling of being calmly certain. That is not the same thing as being right. It is the FEELING of being right.

We don't defeat fascism by agreeing that certain people are less human than other people. By engaging in a ranking of who actually counts as human, whose rights are worth fighting for, we are already just picking which flavor of fascist hellscape is "all we can hope for". I refuse.
So here's the thing about "we need to compromise on homeless/trans rights to defeat fascism first" thing.

Accepting that rights for certain individuals are negotiable is quite literally how we got here in the first place. If humanity is non-negotiable, then they can't nudge the line off the shelf.

Monochrome ribbed bowls made of brightly coloured glass were very popular throughout...🧵 1/2

This. Just this
Their memorials are history. Ours are political. Because as always, there are two sexualities - straight, and political.

Two genders - male, and political.

Two religions - Christian, and political.

Two races - white, and political.
Workers under cover of night removed a rainbow crosswalk outside of the former Pulse nightclub, apparently as part of state and federal transportation officials’ aim to wipe “political banners” from public roadways. www.orlandosentinel.com/2025/08/21/r...

Turned in the sixth of six books I had under contract over the last two years! Officially not on deadline.

None of these are radical, or they shouldn't be. And yet they formed the core of my "radical" beliefs in being kind, learning, respecting peopleness over things.

So no, nothing radicalized me, what made you abandon kindness?

As a Queer mom, I absolutely will not try to convince a kid to be Queer, or to usurp anyone's relationship with their kid. But if any kid doesn't feel safe at home, or gets thrown out for being Queer, I will do my very best to help them stay alive.
I promise there are already talking heads looking at these numbers and saying “1% of adults but 3% of kids? That means most of them detransitioning to on,” and not the real headline:
That until this new generation, abuse and transphobia have killed two thirds of each previous generation.
this analysis, the largest of its kind, released today.

the part that stood out: "among U.S. adults, 0.8% (over 2.1 million people) identify as trans. among youth aged 13 to 17 in the U.S., *3.3%* (about 724,000 youth) identify as trans.

our future quite literally depends protecting trans youth 🩵🩷

So much this. There were 5 TV channels. I read 3 or 4 books per week. Dad would hand me things he thought I'd like. He wanted books that gave me something to think about, so author infodumps on interstellar travel & the nature of sentience were a sign of an author's worthiness.
All this talk about how infodumping is a neurodivergent trait—listen, we grew up reading SFF in the Nineties, OF COURSE we infodump. Y’all are lucky we’re not a full on italicized prologue.

I would like to note here, among Oregon's major public universities, U of O has historically been the school of choice for the humanities. OSU focuses on Science, Engineering, & Agriculture.
A massive attack on several humanities units (Arabic Studies, Judaic Studies, Holocaust Studies, Classics, Religion, German & Scandinavian, Russian/East European/Eurasian Studies) *and* tenure now unfolding at the University of Oregon (a blue state!). Closure of units and faculty layoffs threatened.

Once again: LLMs are word-association algorithms. They are incapable of grokking that the words they parse correspond to actual objects & phenomena outside of their own algorithms. To an LLM, its statements depend not on facts but on how often words occur together in the material the're trained on.
Grok spread dangerous misinformation during the tsunami last night.

It confidently and persistently argued that there were no tsunami warnings in effect for various areas when such warnings were in effect.

Many were using Grok for updates since the ability to locate reliable data on X is degraded.
