I fully believe in the corporate death penalty and believe we would be a better world if OpenAI lost its corporate charter and was forcibly dissolved.

I don't know enough about polling and statistics to assess the blog post this comes from, but I hope it's right. If so, Trump's gains among younger and Hispanic voters in 2024 have not carried over to this year.

I will be surprised if there isn’t at least one headline putting it in exactly those words.
I can’t wait for the articles—“Democrats won big Tuesday night. Here’s why that’s bad for Democrats.”

Home from the UK. Had a great time at @worldfantasy2025.bsky.social , where most people I met insisted they’d heard of my work, though they couldn’t remember what or where. And I got to see the British Museum Reading Room, where the poet I wrote my dissertation on liked to do some of her writing.

Initially processed this as Marjorie Taylor Greene Avatar Set, and now I'm taking comfort in imagining Greene trapped in a room with Toph to get her comeuppance. #ATLA
I would love to get a box of the MTG Avatar set, but I'll be pissed if I cracked those ugly ass screenshot bonus sheet cards. It's some of the laziest "bonuses" I've seen from WOTC. I already thought the Final Fantasy ones looked like unrelated random screengrabs. Like a lazy intern's submission.

Found a pub near the Tower Bridge in London that has a #D&D night every Sunday, starting at 6:30. I’m not here to play, but I knew right away where I wanted to take my business. Tower Bridge Arms, on Tower Bridge Road.

Court Sculptors of Nimrud:
Behold the mighty King of Assyria, conquering the mouths of the Tigris and Euphrates, so full of life! Behold his armies, presenting the heads of his enemies to the Royal Clerk to be counted!

“Accidentally”
HAPPENING NOW: Portland Police Commander Franz Schoening testifies that federal officers on Oct. 18 barraged protesters with crowd control munitions — not because of any violence but because another federal officer accidentally shot tear gas onto the roof of the ICE facility.

A deleted scene, posted for Patreon subscribers. These two characters' relationship develops much faster in the current version of the book than when I wrote this scene. I still like it, but it no longer fits.

In praise of my alpha reader, the friend who has read every draft of every scene of every novel I've started since 2003 — and how his advice is changing my approach to the trip I'm about to take for the @worldfantasy2025.bsky.social in the UK.

Here’s the thing. We still have the power (probably) to say that this image must not be what America is. We still have the power to say “fuck no, we refuse to allow this to be what the streets of America look like.” Attend a “No Kings” rally this Saturday. And then vote in 2026.

learned a new word and got some good advice
Folks are asking what to do about the One Special Boy's AI vids and whether they should share them:

MOCK THEM WITHOUT SHARING.

This creates what an enthymeme, where readers have to SUPPLY PART OF THE REFERENT to understand what you are mocking. An enthymeme is the STRONGEST form of persuasion.

Excellent thread about how images work in motivating or demotivating mass movements for change.
This is absurdly bad PR. These are the images that need amplified. If you're online, think strategically about which images need to go viral to tell the story of the horrors of this moment. RT and share the shit out of them.

What's the short road to atrocities on the level of the Tuskeegee Syphilis Study and Dr. Josef Mengele's experiments on children? Dismantling the Institutional Review Board.
RFK is undoing human subjects protections so he can conduct placebo trials of vaccines. That means infecting people knowingly. I wonder who will “volunteer” for these trials? If history is any guide, a lot of incarcerated and other powerless people.
Dismantling the Institutional Review Board (IRB), that oversees all human subjects research, is bad. Really bad.

And to the republic for which it stands!
Telling moment: I was walking back from the rally, but a couple miles from it, carrying nothing but my gigantic American flag. An eight year old on his bike sees me with it and yells "No Kings!!" with absolute conviction.

My friends, they have lost the flag.
