Le Guin's The Tombs of Atuan. I was maybe 12, home sick from school, and my mom picked it up for me at the library. She knew it was just what I needed. What Le Guin does with viewpoint, getting the reader to see around the main character's blind spots, is just stunning in that book.

That one and "Tribute to the Angels" are my favorites. I think a lot these days about the burnt tree with new blossoms opening on the scarred trunk.
