My god I cannot believe neither Starmer or McSweeney has not gone. I understand there is no brilliant candidate to replace PM but there were times when resigning was not an option. The Overton window on political resignations is mad.

Elder Gen Z, and I feel old as fuck after reading this
Today my Gen Z friend and I were talking about vintage tech, and she asked me what “the box under the screen” was called. I feel BAD about how loud I shouted “THE COMPUTER???” (“No, the box the screen sits on.” “THE COMPUTER???” I shouted again, even more rattled now)

Someone ask him what ”core” British values are? I want to see him try and squirm out of it

(there’s a likely generous read, but I’m done listening to him now)
Keir Starmer attacks the racism of Reform and Matt Goodwin but then adds that "Britain has also been let down by a mindset on the left of politics that is too slow to defend core British values"

This quote from a Reform UK councillor sums it up beautifully. Cross-boundary moral outrages, exported online and sold (especially, but not exclusively) to generations that grew up before the internet, are such a central feature of radicalisation today. www.kentonline.co.uk/maidstone/ne...

This is why imho they should forget about the idea of a honeymoon and go for someone who believes and does things to bring back the left flank of their voter base who’ve jumped ship to Lib Dems & Greens
Having a leader who can perform charisma is not actually a substitute for having a set of ideas to improve the country that you think the electorate will buy into.

This was the one takeaway from that Baldwin book about Starmer that I remember each time I think “why is he so bad at this?”
The thing I will never understand is why Keir has so little self-respect. If one of my political correspondents had briefed that my leadership style was like someone sitting in the front of the DLR, thinking wrongly they were driving, I would have fired them.

one of my strongest beliefs is that we're in our situation right now bc some of the most prominent talking heads (e.g. joe rogan, andrew schulz) are learning about politics in their 40s and 50s, instead of their teens and early 20s, and we have to go along for the ride as they learn basic things

The Labour Party has one mission: to stop the calamity of Reform UK, which in normal times would never get near power, entering govt. We've seen how that goes in the US, and the working class voters Labour seeks to represent would be hurt the most. If they can't even manage that they're a disgrace.

Starmer — a prosecutor with a huge majority, coming in after years of sleaze and mendacity — could have weaponised the corruption of his opponents to incredible advantage. Instead he will be ruined by the living avatar of corruption in his own party. To not see that coming is a serious skill issue.

Listening to the Mandelson debate, I can't see how this ends without resignations in no 10. It's the sense that what he did destroyed trust not just in one govt or party but in the political system generally, like the expenses scandal did. Someone is going to have to take responsibliity for that.

You do not in fact have to in any way profess any kind of kinship to Galloway or, indeed, his voters, actually.

It is also transphobic, homophobic and anti-immigration. And note - Galloway is openly friendly to the nationalist far right inc Farage.

If the Green Party is serious about being on the left, it should delete this and state its opposition to the politics of Galloway and co.

If a tech product requires you to change rules to potentially remove zebra crossings or even make jaywalking a thing, then it’s a bad tech product

We talk about the increasing Americanisation of the UK (see high street chains cc/ @jimmythegiant.bsky.social videos) and this is another example
“Jaywalking is permitted in London. In 1966, the police tried to crack down on it, but gave up after three months.”

People walk and cycle on roads by right, people drive under licence.

Jaywalking is not a thing in English law and Waymo must not change that.

Waymo’s cars were first rolled out in San Francisco, but the English capital’s old roads, pelican crossings and jaywalkers may pose issues for AI, says science and technology professor Jack Stilgoe
