*sigh* here we go again. Your phone is not listening to everything around you 24/7 for advertising purposes. *If* you have voice activation on for the assistant, the mic is listening for the activation phrase: the processing power for listening for a single specific phrase is much lower.
Do you remember when people were saying "I think my phone is listening to me, i'm getting ads for stuff I spoke about" and people said "They arent listening to you, they're just this good at predicting your interests"?

Well, it happens they were doing exactly that.

The squirrel in my wall is getting increasingly loud.

I'm in the midst of planning a canoe trip with folks I don't know terribly well. One women thinks we can accommodate all my dietary restrictions with shared meals, and put together a very detailed meal plan.

Now I have to somehow tell her that I can actually only eat 1 of the meals she planned.

You know why this pisses me off, why did former PM Mulroney (Conservative) allow the sale of our Canadian salt mine (the largest in the world) in 1990 to an American company?

This is one of many reasons Cons should never be allowed power, they sell off our assets.

I just finished my umpteenth rewatch this week, too. Might just start right back in again.
If you listen closely tonight, you may be able to hear the unique Moira Rose accent emanating from computers and TVs across Canada and beyond.

Reminder: journalists get arrested in Canada too.

In fact, The Narwhal is in court right now challenging the RCMP for arresting photojournalist Amber Bracken. Our editor-in-chief,Carol Linnitt, testifies today and Monday, and court is open to the public if you're in Vancouver.
Carol Linnitt, co-founder and editor-in-chief, provides an update on The Narwhal’s court case against the RCMP. Amber Bracken finished cross-examination late Jan. 28. It took more than 12 hours.

Amongst other things, the CFIA is responsible for keeping avian flu out of your chicken nuggets and recalling pistachios that might kill you.

So this is fine, probably.

If you are rightfully angry about this you can demand your MP vote to stop Canada from automatically approving weapons permits to the US without asking what human rights violations they will be used for: armsembargonow.ca/nomoreloopho...
Arms Embargo Now!
The No More Loopholes Act will go to a vote in Parliament at the end of February. The critical window to act to pressure MPs to vote for it is right now.

I missed the deadline to get a refund on the writing course where writing assignments aren't evaluated, so it's entirely on me to find some level of motivation to do the assignments and not just blow $250.

@airpassengerrights.ca Air Canada just cancelled my aunt's Monday flight claiming inclement weather. Can they claim weather 2 days in advance? That sounds like it's entirely within their control at this point.

Also, I should apparently get some new migraine meds.

I noticed on my Telus bill that they charged me for 5 days of roaming while I was in Mexico, and I had only used 4.

The 5th day was an error on their end—my phone connected to a tower but I had no usage.

So they comp'ed ALL the roaming charges! A small win from an industry that's usually horrible.

I couldn't see the aurora last night because we were supposed to get a blizzard and it was overcast.

I also seem to have missed the blizzard. Woke up to about 2cm more snow than yesterday, not the 20-40cm predicted.
